Big respect to the drivers who stopped to try and help. How it didn't take his head off I just don't know - really terrifying. He really is lucky to be alive.

That's some scary stuff. Surviving that in any condition is amazing. If he manages to come back to Formula 1, he really is made of something else. Has he ever had a cold?

Moving his fingers and having fine motor control so that he pick up small objects, write etc is quite different.

Hope he does make a recovery that allows him to return to F1 though, much more positive news recently compared to the first few hours.

The difference is there's far less to do on a bike. They can race with damaged hands and legs where the only limitiation is can they do it through the pain barrier. Far more feel is required in the feet and hands at top level in F1 than Motogp.

With a damaged hand without full mobility Kubicas career is all but over. I hope he recovers fully and gets the top drive he deserves but as I said a year out now has ruined his chances of ever getting a top job.

yes they have less buttons but you do the motoGP guys a disservice
if you have ridden a bike you feel a hell of a lot though the bars/foot pegs and your backside
they have a lot more to do on a bike just to keep it upright
they counter steering with the bars, weighting the foot pegs to help with grip and moving there body all over the bike all at speeds around 200mph
so saying they have a lot less to do is so wrong

Yeah true. It's a shame though as was always quick on Fridays in the BAR and the Super Aguri was never going to show what a driver can do.

He's actually already ruled himself out as he has a signed contract for the Peugeot LMP team.

They isn't what I said. I didn't say they didn't use the body or did much I said far less feel is required in the hands and feet, which is why they can ride with so many injuries.

To me it looks like questions should be asked more of the safety of the rally stage, rather than the safety of the car. There is no way you could prevent cockpit intrusion with an object that solid and that shape.

In all seriousness why dont Renault do some sort of deal with FI to get Hulk in a car (note I still dont rate him too highly but he'd a fair bit better than F1's journey man, someone riding on the Senna name and an idiot)

Or we're going to see a driver merry-go-round in a car that could be pretty fast, taking out front runners....
