Robert Kubica has suffered "serious injuries"

Why Davidson?
People chucking that about because he's a damn nice guy and fine commentator?

He didn't shine at all when he got his chance. He didn't do well enough against Sato over a season to even warrant another look in.

Maybe Montoya or an Champ Car/Indy Car driver just for the lulz :D.

I think Montoya is having rather too much fun hurling a 700hp stock car around in NASCAR to come back to the drudgery of F1 :)

Takuma Sato drives for Lotus KV Racing in IndyCar, maybe they could drag him back to F1? Or maybe Takuma's team-mate E.J. Viso - been ages since we had a Venezuelan driver in F1 (Johnny Cecotto would have been the last one I guess) and he didn't disgrace himself in GP2.

I'm too confused to why Davidson is getting mentioned?
He may be a nice guy 'n' all and did alright in F3, but it was a bit of a 'crash and burn' career in F1.

Interesting that Renault are apparently speaking to Kimi's management, although isn't he tied up with WRC this year?

dont know why Davidson would definitely be worse than any of the three mentioned either (its immatieral as he is in the LMP contract mentioned, but a worthy point non the less)

Chances any of the three being talked about will amaze anyone is slim to none

Horrible thought I just had but Im surprised if there arent insurance reprisals at some point. All the sponsors main targets were surely pinned on Kubica 's points tally rather than anyone else's, with that loss of income to the team could make a huge difference to 2012 season and beyond if not mid-season developement in 2011)

Its only right that it hasnt been officially mentioned yet - but surely the team will miss out on £millions (certainly £100's of k) rather than £thousands

Not only that Frank I doubt Kubica will be getting paid now.

Purely my own theory but I imagine as team owners/sponsors are so keen to get certain drivers, that when they specifically want to do stuff that would normally be prohibited and have it written in, then I imagine the team says get hurt and you won't get paid.

Montoya got hurt on a motorcross bike when that was not allowed and the team (Ron) washed their hands of him within minutes.

I think it's fair enough, the drivers get paid millions per year and sponsors switch teams to put money behind a driver. The last thing they want is a driver having 12 months out due to getting hurt in a dangerous sport/past time.

Yeah fortunately most of the others can drive ;)

Only driver to win the Champ Car title, Indy 500 and Daytona 24 hrs, all in his first attempt at them.
One of two drivers to win the Champ Car title in his rookie year (the other was Nigel Mansell in '93).
30 podium finishes in 94 F1 starts.
7 F1 wins.
2 wins in NASCAR Cup competition.

I'd say he can drive pretty well, myself ;)

The last thing F1 needs is a driver that actually has some race craft ;)

On his day he was awesome, sadly the Grey Mclaren corporate machine killed him and his love for anything F1. He never got near a car good enough for his talent. A character not suited to the backside licking, PR corporate balls of F1.

Shame he never went to Red Bull, they were tailor made for each other imho. Any time Vettel tried his petulant balls with him he would get punched in the face :D

I would suspect that behind the scenes, the suits are getting a bit tetchy.

It would be ironic if the car turned out to be awsome and Heidfeld got to drive it. Anyone else would be a waste really.

Presumably Russian sponsors would prefer a Pole to a German.

Teams take out insurance against potential losses from their drivers being injured(and not just from participating in F1) so Renualt are covered just fine.

Kubica will get paid as drivers also take out insurance against them being injured. As F1 is safe, the premiums for that are reletively low, they go up when the driver starts doing things like riding motorcycles, skiing and particularly rallying. Kubica and his team would have insured they had the correct insurance in place.

So all in all, there will be no big losses, that is what the insurance is there to cover.

Can't see it being anyone but Heidfeld really.

He's the best of 3 terrible options (like being stuck in a position to choose your top 3 std's)

Montoya would be a funny guy to have back, he's what Massa could have been and sort of what F1 could do with. Some of the Williams cars he drove showed off some of his talent (getting a few good wins out them too).

And yet a lot of the time (especially early to mid 2003(?)) Ralf Schumacher was quicker than him. Does not compute.

But anyway, I wouldn't place much emphasis on his Champ Car and Indy 500 wins, CART was on it's last legs and the Indy 500 was a joke by then. I've always felt Montoya was overrated, his reputation mainly being there due to one overtaking move in Brazil 2001. There are too many excuses for his many bad races he had in F1.
