Robert Kubica has suffered "serious injuries"

His manager is talking about a return this year:

Robert Kubica's manager Daniel Morelli believes there is a possibility the Pole could return to racing in the final grand prix of the season in Brazil.

Morelli says Kubica's recovery is going well, and admits his right hand is still the main concern, with his right leg not a real problem anymore.

Morelli insisted it is not impossible that Kubica returns to racing this year.
"Recovery is progressing positively," Morelli told Gazzetta dello Sport. "The right leg is fine: if that was the problem, then Robert would practically be ready. No, that's not our worry.

"The Italian GP is held in September, so it's in just three months' time, but we can think about the final race of the season.
"In any case, when Robert gets in the simulator, he'll immediately understand whether he's able to come back, how and when, without the need of a stop-watch."

Polish website Fakt.pl published on Monday the first photos of Kubica after his accident, the Pole walking with a crutch and with a forearm guard and brace on his injured hand.

Sounds like BS to me. I wish him well, and hope to see him back, but then again I'm not trying to maintain his market value for commission purposes

It is F1 though, so who knows?

Seems hard to believe he'll ever have the dexterity in that hand required to drive an f1 car at the top level again but I guess you never know.

Coming back this season though seems highly optimistic if he's still got support on his arm now, imagine it will take some serious physio to get it strong enough.

dont see the point in him coming back for 1 race, why not wait till next season to get a longer recovery.

its also a bit crap that he comes back for the final of the season and just kicks hiedfeld out the seat.

If he comes back in the last race, the team could sign him for next year. If he doesn't, the team wont know if hes fit to race and will likely sign someone else.

From a career perspective, he needs to get back in a car this year. However, looking at his arm, I'm not convinced hes coming back. Thats one hell of a scar!

I feel sad looking at his arm in those pics. Someone used a great word ; "dexterity" ... precisely what will be questionned - will he have it in that arm, flicking buttons / turning a wheel etc. under the strain and forces of an F1 car. I wish I could say yes but looking at the pics it doesn't look very good :(

his manager is going to end up pushing back into f1 before hes ready and kubica wont have a career anymore...

i mhope he has the sense to ignore his managers advice and only come back when hes damn sure hes ready

I dunno if he will be back in a full race seat this year, but could possibly do some friday and saturday practice sessions for sure, just so they can get an idea of the strength of his muscles, fatigue will be the biggest problem he will face for a while i reckon with damage such as that to his arm.

Fridays might be a good shout actually.

Basically, the difference getting into an F1 car before the season ends as opposed to not will have on his chances for a contract next year is potentially massive.
