Robocain - Robocop 2 robot

2nd "arm" not so easy, after a bit of thinking I decided to make it like this

DSC09145.JPG

had to cut the slot in the tube with the slitting saw.

at last a fun bit! little hydraulic ram

DSC09147.JPG

detailed, drilled and then the rod to fit

DSC09148.JPG

tiny screws, tiny holes and a tiny bracket

DSC09149.JPG

:):):):):)

DSC09150.JPG

in other news, found some corrugated plastic which looks ideal for the shoulder thingies

DSC09154.JPG

i originally though it had a light behind it, but its the flash from the photo, thank god

DSC09153.JPG

had to make a number of little hydraulic pipe fittings again, all attached holes drilled and taped. Just the finishing off to do now, some detail here and there.

Just browsing the other forums you have logged this work on and there is a bit about you not being able to hide wires for working the lamps. Im sure you could manage that. Couldnt you just use LED's? I am sure you only need very thin wires and a small battery to power them!!

It would be great to see them working....

The wires would still be visable, besides the lights are only on for the warehouse scene. I think it'll look silly with big spot lights stuck on it when its not dark.

Ok back to it.

take one block of delrin, cut it square

DSC09156.JPG

remove 80% of it

DSC09157.JPG

mill a funky recess

DSC09158.JPG

drill, countersink etc etc

DSC09159.JPG

got some 3mm brass tube which is spot on fer these bits, managed to tap the inside to M2 for the bolt head M2 screws to hold it in.

DSC09162.JPG

spot on

DSC09163.JPG

another one finished

DSC09191.JPG

all assembled

DSC09192.JPG

turned some collars/disks to mount this on the end, the pincer will go on the end.

DSC09198.JPG

start of the pincer

DSC09199.JPG

the pivoting points of the pincer will attach to this, its pretty small!

DSC09200.JPG

Starting on the nippers, have to make 2 exactly the same which is always a challenge.

DSC09201.JPG

marked everything out and cut a groove each side with the bull nose cutter.

DSC09202.JPG

bit more trimming

DSC09203.JPG

bit more trimming, wobbly photo sorry

DSC09204.JPG

basic shape done on a picture of what im aiming for.

DSC09205.JPG

Cut the angle on each side on each one (look like little fish)

DSC09206.JPG

started rubbing one down, 600 gritt gets the right finish

DSC09207.JPG

found the mod 1 gear track I used for the shoulder disks is just right for the teeth! excellent, one less thing to make!

DSC09208.JPG

made a set of these ovals up only to find they were the wrong size

DSC09209.JPG

turned the little hydraulic cylinders things

DSC09210.JPG

thats the idea, just too short

DSC09211.JPG

just to give an idea of the size

DSC09212.JPG

put together with the short plates on, it opens at an angle becuase they are too short, better remake them then!

DSC09213.JPG

finally the right length, rubbed down, teeth painted, looking cool :)

nom nom nom

thanks guys :)

I've loved this thread for quite some time.

Im assuming once it's built up you'll tweak and improve it until you're satisfied?

yeh just getting all the hard stuff done first, then i'll have to go back over everything making sure its perfect, then painting some bits, polishing others, then pipework, hydraulic lines, etc.

In that case can you re-do the thighs? :D. Always thought the legs on the original were awful.

lol, no I like them, plus that was code for "that bits rather hard to do so im leaving it off!" down to the original being plastic not metal.

Keep forgetting to update, sorry.

Onto the head, back to the cardboard as this is a fairly difficult shape to scale from pictures.

The basic shape here:

DSC09253.JPG

but i think overall a bit to big, maybe 20%

DSC09254.JPG

DSC09255.JPG

DSC09256.JPG

so cut it and chopped it, making everything a little smaller, quick shot of paint

DSC09257.JPG

a better size, I spent a long time measuring and playing with cardboard, I think overall this is right.

starting with the top in delrin

DSC09258.JPG

DSC09259.JPG

this is for the front of the head, at the moment all a bit overwhelming as the task in hand is rather difficult. This is the final hurdle though, once over this its all easy.

DSC09260.JPG

something like that, its such a funny shape you only have to turn it a few degrees and it looks so different.
