Hmm thought that was a game there. :(

Would be better if there was a cash prize that entices some serious robot builders to come on. Also they should have more time per round and get rid of the pit.

Id love to see what kinda robot colinfurze could make for the show.

Do they not get any money for winning? Just a daft trophy?

Theres never a mention of a prize in the show except a trophy if the win the finals.

If there was a nice cash prize of 10k or something around that, i bet we would see a lot better robots and a lot better prepared ones like tested ones in the show than new comers who usually say no we haven't tested it.

Edit, just read this.

Prize Money:
Previous series of Robot Wars offered cash prizes, but the BBC were not able to promote this, as the prize relied on the money of taxpayers. Under the ownership of Five, the presenters were able to announce the cash prize, with Craig Charles and Jonathan Pearce claiming that the cash prize was a new feature. The total cash pot had a value of over £20,000, with £5,000 going to the eventual champion. It is known that the third-placer also received £5,000, and that all contestants received £50.

Anyone any thoughts on why so many robots seem unreliable? Seen some people say that the teams only had 3 months to prepare for the new show so possibly a lot of teething problems went unfixed to make the tv dates?

Yeah 3 months to build and test a bot is not enough time. Some of the bots hav been around since the first wars and compete on the live advent shows.

What a fantastic final. Really good battles and the final could have gone either way. Massive kudos to Thor's driver/builder for getting it running again after the first fight. I do wonder whether it's battle with TR2 might have gone differently had it faced them first.

Also: Carbide tearing the arena apart! Awesome.

Were all 6 episodes filmed on one day? As they are all wearing the same clothes and haven't had much chance to fix their bots from previous episodes.

Certainly seems like it wasn't much more than a day - you can hear stuff or catch glimpses of stuff in the background at times from other episodes and/or different parts of the current episode.

Pretty terrible overall.
Stopping the second fight when the panel comes off, then dont finish the fight and allow hurt robot to leave.
No real destruction and I knew putting teams in the same booth was a terrible idea, as they are asking each other to go easy, so they just wait for the countdown timer and no real destruction.
Poor poor series and wouldn't care if there wasn't another in this state.

I think team Razer will be glad they got put out early, had they went up against a functioning carbide i think their bot would have got totally battered.

Final episode was so so, yet again robots sort of working for a short time then not. Pulsar yet again proving to be as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike, runs for a few seconds then one of the wheels totally stops leaving it twitching in circles. Carbide was wrecking the place (literally) when it worked but that was short lived.

More time was needed before the show started and between fights for a better season, as said above this seems to have been filmed over the course of a couple of days, only Angela was wearing different clothing in the final episode. Not sure why bbc deemed it necessary to cram everything into as stupidly tight schedule as it obviously affected the overall quality.

Only one robot needed to go out and it was plain that one of them was damaged beyond any ability to go on literally - all that would have come to was resuming with a pointless 10 second countdown timer to the end.

Was kind of disappointing how many were affected by link failures and stuff of that nature - a few things like that turned what could have been a good series into a bit of a sham.

Like I said before this is 100% down to the format, if it was a straight elimination battle then I would have expected far more destroyed robots.

When doing a league format your heavily reliant on robots not being destroyed in every fight otherwise it doesn't work. There was clearly some instructions at the start of the thing to this effect.

There is also the fact that when a robot is clearly disabled and you have already won, you have already won. If you go ahead and completely destroy it after your just a ****.

The thing about the robot and the wider 'maker' community, it is very small, everyone knows each other and helps each other. Once you get the reputation for being a ****, no one will help you ever again. In group battles people will just gang up on you etc.

Spinners that go in for more hits after the countdown starts are also risking unnecessary damage to their own bots which might leave them breaking down halfway through the next league fight...or even the final.
