Robot Wars returning to BBC2!

i went and saw the celeb specials being filmed. was a good day and enjoyed it. The battles were very short though and the celebs were useless at controlling the bots. even saw myself on tv in both episodes :D

Just about to watch the first one with my sons.

update: yep lots of padding. The celebs were asked to design the robot and the mentors were then asked to attempt to copy the design. Probably due to time if you look the two spinners in the first episode had the same basic chassis right down to the same exposed wheels so there were probably 2 or 3 different chassis pre-built and the mentors then had to do the best they can to copy the celebs design. I think the Producers spoilt it by thinking they had to make it easy for the celebs and hence exposed rubber wheels but they made it too easy and the battles were over quickly. It was only a Christmas special anyway not to be taken too seriously.

In the new series coming there are a few good battles that I saw including a couple of very good ones and that was only a fraction of the series so time will tell.

Rather enjoying the new series. Almost amusing to see an over-engineered machine fail. Hope Sabertooth can win, they seem like nice team.

They need to give them longer to repair their robots. How can they expect good fights when teams are managing to get their weapon running backwards by mistake?

Aftershock looks very good though.

The American Robot wars (Battle Bots) makes this look like complete amateur hour, its almost laughable.... no it is laughable!

Health and Safety has no doubt killed any possible way the UK version could ever compete, still no doubt the kids will still enjoy it
Agreed. Flamethrower weapons aren't even allowed in Robot Wars even though Total Control has proven they are viable weapons capable of doing real damage and not just for show anymore.
They'd never let this machine in the Robot Wars arena:

The robots in Battlebots are far more expensive.

Every other one is sponsored by a robotics company.

Are they even going to let that one in the BattleBots Arena, that looks like it'll shatter the arena glass at full power...and itself...and most of the arena. OK, I want to see it fight.

Production will probably limit its top speed if they want it in.

What made me laugh was that Rapid cost £25000 due to the Titanium toolin and was rubbish. That was one of the battles we saw and what you didnt see on the cameras was they were given it this big all we are going to beat them and we can tip over a house robot and well. No.

Also I dont believe this 2 hour limit they say either. Yesterday we saw about 3 or 4 battles we witnessed live. (also saw my son waving his In the Pit foam hand) For instance we saw all the Aftershock battles on the Saturday apart from the Final. So that would mean the grand final robots had longer than the 2 hours because the last pre-final battle that Aftershock saw we did. Also on the Saturday we saw one Apollo battle and two Carbide battles yet so that would indicate they have longer than 2 hours to get ready. Also on the Saturday we never saw the 10 second House Robot activation yet in yesterdays battle it happened so this also shows you that 2 hr limit is a bit suss.

The sabretooth destruction was a lot better witnessed live. The first time it got hit the big piece of metal you see on the floor hit two walls before it stopped and the bang was very loud. Watch out for the Carbide battles they are epic.

Also dont forget this is the BBC we are talking about. You have to fill out 25 forms just to borrow a pair of scissors there health and safety regulations are incredible.

IMO a perfect edit of the 2016 Battlebots final. Cut all the flannel, all the interviews and just show the hot metal on metal action :nerd:

That dismantling in the minotaur v bronco fight :O was amused by the bit where it looked like minotaur casually tossed one of the wheels behind itself when it came off.

How did they award that fight against PP3D to Cherub?

Just because they were kids.

Behemoth get a lifeline.
