Robot Wars returning to BBC2!

Wow. That was a brutal final fight. That's some flipper.

PP3D suffered from the fatal flaw of so many spinners; it can't take its own power. Behemoth fell to the sin of hubris, playing with a new toy instead of despatching what they saw as a soft foe. Cherub was rubbish but won through on luck, pluck, and good driving.

PP3D has serious potential but those exposed wheels will come to haunt them in future. Have they never watched Robot Wars before?!

Likewise, having a seriously powerful weapon is all well and good but unless you can absorb the damage you're dishing out it's a bit pointless.

Not seen it mentioned but I've always thought Behemoth's weakness was it's centre of gravity. Every time it flips, it raises up because the centre of mass is rearward of the centre axis. This normally means another flipper simply has to wait for them to flip and they can get underneath them, which if you look at their front scoop.. appears to be the one thing they don't want. I'm not sure how they can change that without a major re-think but it would make them 10x more effective.

Eruption seems well balanced and has a powerful flipper but their strength is in the driveability IMO. Watching them drive circles around some of the competitors was a sight to behold. Oh, and flipping Behemoth clean out of the arena was priceless :D

It's good to see the robots much more robust this year. Far less link failures from a relatively minor hit, and we've seen a couple of seriously damaging robots so far (sadly for PP3D it was damaging itself more than the opposition).

I thought it was a good episode with a couple of weird decisions, but I could see why they were awarded the way they were.

I agree with fullmetaltony and EVH - the Eruption driver was fantastic - they have that George Francis  factor about them

Good to see a 13 year old driver doing what I thought was a decent job, until the final 'fight'! Robot Wars is the perfect project for families to work together and get kids interested in engineering, so it was good to see a young team do a decent job, even if they got lucky once or twice.

That last fight was the shortest in RW history I believe at 5.4 seconds.
I don't think Eruption could have been driven more perfectly than in that round. See the slo-mo and he does exactly the precise amount of turn, after the initial contact, to drive Cherub straight for the wall and..... flip! We were all out of our chairs round my house. Awesome

They seem like weird decisions - but I can kind of see why the judges are coming to them - Cherub went out there and did the best it could even if it wasn't that impressive a best while some of the competitors against them really didn't live upto their potential. In a couple of fights the opposition really should have been picking Cherub apart instead it was mostly underwhelming (aside from the one good hit PP3D got but that disabled itself as well) so they didn't really deserve to win.

Just watching some clips from the 2016 battlebots - didn't realise they even allowed projectile weapons in that lol.

not watched it yet but from the comments I guess Carbide wasnt in last nights episode ! ;) Oh and you could say when you see it "projectiles" are allowed in RW too ! ;)

I'm more interested in just what that robot is in the starting sequence, looks really strange. Can't recall seeing it before so assuming its new for this season.

LOL yeah - but there was one robot in battlebots that was literally firing stuff around (probably just fancy fireworks) which I don't think they allow in RW.

But it shouldn't really be about "potential" or "doing the best they could" - it should be based on absolute performance.

I know that Robot wars has a certain cheesy, amateur-feeling charm to it, but it's a risk of going overboard if they start just awarding results based on effort or how many kids there are on the team.

That said, the Behemoth guy did make a fool of himself. I feel sorry for him because I don't think he considered how petty it would make him look and he was mainly just annoyed at his team.

I think he was also quite annoyed about the floor flipper thing and I can sympathise - even though ultimately I think the fairest thing was to restart the fight.

At the end of the day though like many sports if you can't take losing or seeing your work torn to shreds don't get in the arena.

Just watched yesterdays episode he was a plank but he made a comment that it wasnt his decision to go with the new weapon under his breath he wanted the tried and tested flipper and from the comments afterwards when he left sounds like there was disagreement in the team so I think he stormed off more to do with his team mates than actually losing. Also notice how he was interviewed on his own afterwards which is strange as normally the interviews are with teammates in the background.

Judging by the teaser for next week Carbide is not in it. We've now seen all the battles we saw apart from the Apollo and Carbide ones and I think they appear in the same episode. Next week will be good as we didnt see these battles and that new robot looks interesting.

I`m just teasing what is to come but lets just say Carbide makes its own projectile so to speak. Can't wait to see it again as it was a bit like watching footy live you see an amazing bit but then you dont get a replay like you do on TV but you cant wait to see it again.

It was quite amusing how utterly useless that hobgoblin robot was, it only took i think 1-2 hits then got grounded out on the slope and couldn't move again. That Cherub robot surprised everyone though, had no real attacks but somehow went through to the end.

Yeah Hobgoblin was poor but then again if you listen to the builders they had not tested the self right or whether it drives upside down and didnt have much confidence in how well they would do. Makes you wonder whether they didnt have a lot of time.
Series 3 is due to start filming in the summer (Series 2 should have been in summer but got put back) and applications are open now for builders to apply for series 3 so it makes you wonder how long they have from being accepted into Series 3 until filming. Obviously builders with existing robots have a better chance of completion but new guys must be up against it.

Just checked Robotwars website and Carbide/Apollo is Week 5 which is the battles we saw. Watch out for Carbide v Crackers n Smash it was spectacular.

What the heck is this ? :)
