Robot Wars returning to BBC2!

It got pretty much mashed by a single strike from the body spinning thing and didn't look very manouverable before that.

Looked like a classic case of spending all your time over-engineering the weapon and neglecting the basics to me.

Weapon was never deployed by the looks of things.

The spinny thing looks nice, fairly simple design and robust. Looked like it was trying to take off though.

Yeah it does - simple but effective.

I'm still utterly baffled why so many people persist with axe weapons - they're universally hopeless.

Oi that's not on - they were trapped by an arena defect then the house robot goes for them!

That should have been stopped the moment the pit malfunctioned

Looks like it's a lot more complicated and armour is non-existant.

Edit: Got to be Thor in the final.

Edit: Dunno

Looks like being a carbon copy of last series so far at least, robots weapons crapping out after a slight breeze passes them.

Reliability is ruining this series.

Not only are battles lost in 5 seconds but robots aren't going for the killer blow (in the group stages) out of sympathy for their competitors. I think it has something to do with knowing that massive damage can't be fixed in 2hrs. Sort of ruins the spectacle when the other robot sits waiting for a countdown to start instead of smashing them to pieces.

Thor's reliability is still the biggest weakness. Mr Speed Squared is carrying a design flaw which makes it de-stabilise and the others were crap.

That heavy metal captain was an arrogant goat too.

Some of the fights have been better, a small number had robots smashed to pieces heh.

Thor was unlucky not to get to the final, the drive on that robot is insane and some of the tactical decisions were next level meta - worth rewatching those fights as the intentions of some of the moves are easy to miss. Unfortunately also 1-2 bad strategic decisions that cost him dear however - partly I think due to pan icing a bit due to reliability and some other oddities with the arena that should really have been fixed.

Both finalists deserved to go through though so someone had to lose.

Problem there is that there is always the chance you actually help the other robot get going again so better to play it more cautiously.

That speed squared robot did more damage to the floor than anything else, then you had foxic with the flipper that still has never seen use in combat, that student robot never got to deploy its weapon and served as an ornament, and the other robot.. tauran or whatever was disabled after catching a whiff of a fart 10 seconds into it's first fight.

Another enjoyable episode. Some really good tactical battles, and nice to see battles won on driver skill. MR squared was another spinner with too much weapon for its own good. Nice to see Thor back, although he under-impressed in the final battle. Heavy metal showed some skillfull driving but was ultimately another robot with an underpowered weapon and a big design flaw (those wheels!).

Are they limited to what tools they can use in the pits, they all seem to have socket sets that look like they're made by Tonka :p

Dara is the worst presenter they could have chosen for this show lol. He just makes it 10x boring. It doesn't help that there are over 10 minutes of intros before any robots actually start fighting. I tried watching this show a few times but end up turning off after 10 mins of boring intros.

Thing is Dara is a great presenter, loved him on the apprentice you're fired, but Robot Wars just isn't his show.

I said this during the first series. A controversial opinion no doubt, but I thought Chris Evans should have chosen this rather than Top Gear, as his abrasive style would fit much better.

Dara's voice is just too soft and he didn't seem interested last series. This series he seems better though, and it probably helps that Angela Scanlon has been boosted up to a more equal stature, as I felt last time she was very much the number 2 presenter.

I do agree that it would be better with 15 minutes chopped off though, or more action/educational stuff. There's too much of being introduced to the teams (we meet them in the pits before the first match, then we see them at home before the 2nd round - just talk to them in the pits and be done with it).

I just tend to record and watch afterwards as no way i could sit through the whole episode, would be too boring/cringeworthy. Just watch the battles and the bits afterwards when reporting on damage and repair.

I'd like to see them take the technical side seriously. Put in a five minute segment each week about robot design or building.
