Rome 2 : Total War

I don't doubt that it wouldn't be a big issue for them to some the various bugs and performance issues re: lagging and frame rate, but when the game looks visually like complete ass and together with the gameplay issues then serious questions should be raised.

I think it goes to show how disjointed and the lack of communication there can be within a studio.

On the official forums someone has found an entry for the loose formation button in the encyclopedia...but there is no loose formation button!

This game was so far from being finished and tested properly its ridiculous.

I've uploaded a video of the FPS issue when moving your cursor over an enemy zone of control (after you've selected one of your armies). I've also posted it on the official forums. This is running the 1.5 beta patch too!

I get this too with the latest patch installed.

I'd just like to give Lt_Red a little wave and say well you know what the answer is now. I'm clearly not a bull****ter. More an idiot for saying anything.

I wanted to warn a few of you but the way you went on like I was some kinda bank robber I thought I best just keep my mouth shut. CA seem to be working flat out on fixing the bugs, errors and issues though, so lets not worry hopefully the game gets to the standard it deserves.

As underneath there's a bloody stonking game. Just needs each new feature fixed one by one. So we have a few very solid features working.

I think the game looks pretty good graphics wise tbh and once they fix some of the performance and game bugs it will be a pretty decent game.

We all want the product we're looking forward to, to be fantastic.

The anger aimed at you was because you gently suggested/warned us (rightly so) that the end product might not meet our lofty expectations.

To be fair, no one (normal plebs like me) expected the game to have so many broken features.

That said, I can't stop thinking about how much I want to keep play the game when i'm not playing it. To me, it's currently a good game (others obviously disagree).

When fixed (by the community/devs), it'll be epic.

Has there been any comment yet why the current game play/graphics look nothing like the amazing stuff shown in game play videos released a year ago?

Playing the Iceni at the moment as my "learn how to" game and have most of northern Europe conquered as i take "greater Britannica" on towards the gates of Rome. :)

Saving my Rome campaign for a few weeks until it's had some update - losing ridiculous hours of my life to it though even now although I have to be honest at the moment I auto resolve more battles than I actually play through. Really can't get the hang of naval combat - constantly end up with my ships getting in the way of each other and getting taken out one by one.

I hope that statement isn't just silver tongued.

I'm sure they have every intention of delivering this, but the bigger question is whether Sega will let them. Don't forget the money's in now, so every week they spend patching is a week they're not working on the next thing to make Sega some money. Unfortunately that's just how it works these days :(

What I fail to understand is why they appear to base the fundamental aspect of the game on old game code. This is apparent with the types of bugs that are in the current game. Loose formations - wasn't that in the original rome game? I realise it may be down to time and financial implications but this happens with every total war release that I can think of. It's ridiculous that major problems aren't quashed early on though. I'm a beta tester for a war game series and obviously bugs are intrinsically linked with new releases but never to this level. The game simply shouldn't have gone gold in this condition.

because the game currently doesnt have working HDR,tesselation, MSAA (Shogun 2 had up to 8xMSAA i think?).

It is all in the scripts file for the game....just not actually implemented..?

Why you ask, when Shogun 2 had all these things? I am ****ed if i know!

I don't see how you think that loose formation, being part of the original game means the current one is based on the same code there's literally no evidence of that and quite the opposite.

In interview their main battlefield AI chap states that they've used new AI code and from playing the game to me it's the NEW stuff that's actually broken and the older concepts and ideas which have simply been removed (like family trees etc). I think the problem is down to the newer elements mostly, not the older.

AI, graphical glitches and some missing content such as loose formations which is referred to but not part of the game need fixing but as it's a CA game it's unlikely to ever happy fully.

I'm just curious when they plan to start releasing DLC, I can't see it being successful unless the core game is working pretty well, which from my experience so far it isn't.

And the troop movement seemingly looking refined a year ago, and 'frenetic' now?

Note: I don't have the game so I'm going on comments

Again, who knows! Although personally the troop movement seems ok. It is like they went backwards and used the starting code for Shogun 2...rather than the code that they had finely tuned and honed to almost perfection...?

The game has regressed in many ways. I can see there is a fantastic looking game under there somewhere but you cant see it behind the awful performance, jaggied edges/lack of anti aliasing, and bugs.

There is no evidence of course but I'm very sceptical in my old age. I just have a hunch that they are basing everything on a successful tried and tested system. I do know that when rome total realism came out the developers found a load of redundant code from old games which caused a lot of the problems. I would guess that not much has changed.

Sort of feels like a Aliens: Colonial Marines all over again, where the final release looks like a big step backwards from the game play videos released yonks before!?
