Rome 2 : Total War

OMG. Friend and I have been struggling though a co-op campaign for just 30 turns over the last week (averaging about 5-6 turns per night due to the silly AI turn speed) only to find after this patch the AI turn speed is even worse and after each turn one of us either desychs or crashes.

For the last 2 hours we have made TWO ****IN TURNS. Between crashes, desynchs and reloads. TWO TURNS IN TWO HOURS.

Isn't this one of the things Angry Joe pointed out in his review?

Am I alone in that I have no graphical issues, turn time is pretty normal for the amount of factions (definitely not more than a minute at best)?

Don't get me wrong the game is still massively lacking but I can't work out why I have no issues yet so many of you are??

I'm going to retreat away from the PC now and slowly pluck my left eye out with a sharp pencil because I think that may be much less frustrating, a little more entertaining and slightly less painful.

I read something over on the official forums about patch 2 not being save game compatible. Although, after we installed the patch we got constant desyncs even with a new campaign. Surprisingly the thing that 'seemed' to solve it (bare in mind we were playing over LAN) was installing Magnar mod, no more desyncs after that. I have gone back to the Radious Total War mod but have yet to try it online. Before patch 2 any multiplayer battles online were an immediate desync.

tiny nations are asking me 5,000 gold for a peace or trade agreement or non aggression pact. Surely they should be paying me money not to destroy them!?

They often keep trying to give me money for peace...just before I destroy them :D

I am in the same position. Since the new AMD drivers, not a single crash or graphical error. Even a lot of the gameplay issues I am not experiencing (like the one above).

Has anyone else noticed that if you use the troop function to "whip" them then you get the large green upward floating arrows etc and it seems to work as it should.
But I'm not sure if I am using the War Cry or other Generals options to increase morale or reduce fatigue etc as nothing seems to happen when I select them in battle..?

Everyone was going crazy about this game pre-release, just popped my head into the thread again to see that my suspicious (yet again) about a new game with high expectations being shot down.

I have not played the game and cannot comment about it till I do so, but its a sad state of affairs when sequels to legendary games are being release recently which are not satisfying the masses. Its happening too often now.

War cry you have to select an enemy stack and I think it makes there morale drop.

Thanks for that, I must not be doing it right, or the result of applying it is not as obvious - might be missing those sparkly bling effects...?!

I do wish there was a way to keep formation a little better when in battle, then again with the flag system at the moment emphasis is soon taken away from the strategy of using the terrain and forests etc if your flag is left out in the open.

To be fair, user reviews are just as rubbish as the critic reviews.

The average idiot on the street is unable to distinguish between a disappointing game & a game which is bad.

Company of heroes 2 while it was disappointing, was nowhere near that bad - as it's the gameplay mechanics are almost identical to the first game (Which I've played extensively & competitively).

The same applies to Rome 2, it's not that bad - just people are being hysterical over a few things which will most likely be fixed in a few weeks.

If a few bugs/gameplay fixes could make this game a 10/10 in the eyes of most, then it's not a 3/10 now - it's 6 or 7/10 with room for improvement once fixed.

I've got poor performance (considering my setup), slow turn speed (more so in multiplayer) - but apart from that along with a few gameplay mechanic issues it's not bad.

It's nowhere near as bad as people are making it out to be.

It's not the worst game ever no, but it's worse than the one that came before it in every way, which warrants it a lower score than a typical 'alright' game. If a sequel isnt as good/better than the one before it, then you're going to get a lot of flack, and rightly so.

Some of you really need to take the Rome one rose tinted glasses off.

Its one of my all time fav games, but the launch of it was terrible it took nearly a year before it was playable and its still suffers bugs to this day. Ones I cant be bothered to go into.

Yes Rome 2 was rushed out the door and half the features are broken but beta patch two has already fixed a lot for me in 3 months + time the game will really start to push forward.

Anyone who thinks its a down or side grade is an idiot and is just forgetting about all Romes One issues. Shogun was very Meh!

So the game was sent out the door a bit early, thats happens with 90%^ of games these days. Be thankful CA have acknowledged this and are working on it.(a lot of dev's don't) ie gearbox

Day one DLC is a bit of a kick in the teeth when the game was a mess, but again this would be planned months in advance and the overlord SEGA would demand it. Nothing to do with CA same as the release date isn't.(You really think anyone wanted to release it in its current state ?) The facts are it came out when it did or it wouldn't of came at all.(So deal with it.)

I'm sure some of you was expecting a life changing experience not a game?

The only thing ill take a knock for is bad planning. Everyone has to hold there hands up on that one. Apart from that what a super game I and lots of others are having great fun with.

I played Shogun one on release , Medieval, Medieval 2, Empire, Napoleon & also Shogun 2 all on release & they all had problems in the early days.

Most of these games took ages to get fixed & the modding community was responsible for most of them (namely darth mod).

I mean, it's had family trees replaced with politics (as it's based around a republic, not a royal family/shogun) so that's hardly having things stripped out.

Yes guard mode should be put back in, but it's hardly like it's been stripped down to nothing - it's gained as many mechanics as it lost from previous games.

The game is nothing like what the devs showed and claimed as in game footage. It's also missing the amazing AI specifically developed for this game.

Bold claims like this and then not coming to the game really upsets the fans.

Now that we all know that everyone should share YOUR almighty opinion on this travesty, we can hopefully fix our ways.

We're the idiots apparently.....

Most of those are just protest votes of 0. It is quite pathetic that any review with 0 that can say just simply "bad" gets lots of helpful votes, whilst any review with anything higher than about 4 (even if really detailed and constructive) gets no helpful votes.

Whilst I think the critic score is a little high (and from the usual suspects), based on previous metacritic user crusades and hate I generally steer clear of the whole site. It is a shame that Steam still links to the site tbh.

This is one of the many interesting articles discussing metacritic reviews - http://www.x360magazine.com/general/metacritic-games-critic-reviews-vs-user-reviews/

Well you know what they say, there is no smoke without fire....

Some people seem to be finding it hard to come to terms with the fact that this has been a huge dissapointment for most Total War fans. It is also wrong/bordering on fraud that it was released in the condition it is.

If you enjoy, that is great, go and play it and enjoy it. That doesnt stop it being a massive regression from Shogun 2 and huge dissapointment to a LOT of people.
