Rome 2 : Total War

So now I've got my new system up and running I've finally been able to play Rome 2, almost exactly two months after pre-ordering it. Runs like a dream on max settings :D

Started as Rome, House of Julia, because I like to be different, on Hard difficulty.

I think Syracuse has played me. I was at war with the Etruscans and had just sent a legion over the Corsica to take Alalia from them when an Etruscan force landed just outside Consentia. Syracuse offered to help me out, and as my nearest army was up in Ariminum I decided to accept. Turns out, though, that Alalia was the last Etruscan town, so once I had subjugated it they became a client state - war over, without Syracusan aid. But I still have this military alliance with Syracuse, and the expansionist ******** have since dragged me into their wars against Epirus, Athens, and Sparta.

Well I shelved this game just short of 2 months ago, and was lucky to pick up the DLC. But is the game worth digging up again or should I wait even longer?

I mainly shelved it because of the massive bugs and horrid horrid Ai.

Im quite liking it at the moment, but wait till patch 7 comes out as that's meant be a big one especially for AI.

Started a new Rome VERY HARD campaign the weekend on the 1.6 patch and having a decent game. Play it on Very Hard or above and the game comes to life. Can still be improved on but battles start to become battles and your start to have to think a little on the campaign map.

Sparta Have just taken land south of Cartha after me asking them to attack Africa. Im going to enjoy wooping there backsides when I'm ready for the 2nd Punic war. Egypt are also growing mighty. I have been gifting them any spare money I have to help them fight all those crappy little eastern outfits and put up a fight against there arch enemy.

Looks an interesting campaign.

IIRC in the previous games "Very Hard" didn't make the AI any better, it just gave them bonuses, more money, better morale, better attack/defense etc...

Is it the same in Rome 2?

I'll wait to see if they fix the AI before I spend any more money on this game.

I'm the same...there is no way I would buy a CA offering at release. I wait at least until the patching stops around the first expansion before I will even consider it nowadays.

I would happily have waited another year for a game that was released in a decent state, and paid full price instead of 10 quid for a year old game.

Me neither, I'll never buy SEGA/CA on release ever again. And they can stick their 'free' DLC bribe up their arse.

I said I would never again buy on release after Empire. Then Napoleon was okay and Shogun 2 went (relatively) smoothly so I thought they'd learned their lesson.

Took a chance on Rome 2 as it was the most anticipated game from them for years and surely they wouldn't risk messing it up.

I still can't believe they actually released it only half finished. Lesson learned. :(

I'd just noticed it's been reduced a bit on steam and almost bought it. I'm glad I checked here first, hopefully CA will eventually sort it out.

The blood & gore pack is much better than shoguns, with radius it's improved (high frequency more blood).

Game-play & stability have both improved over time, still waiting on siege improvements (AI sucks) - but overall the game isn't that bad anymore.

It's most certainly much easier on 'easy', but I'd say Shogun 2 was much harder than intended - in Rome 2 I have to put it upto legendary to get the same kind of challenge as Very Hard on Shogun 2.

Put it on very hard (or higher), then try a new game to those who find it boring - it should spice it up a little.

Sorry haven't read the whole thread but is this game worth getting yet? I really love Rome Total War but keep getting put of getting this new version due to the bug and other issues people have raised.
