Rome 2 : Total War

I'm not a huge Total War fan but i would like to try and get into this game

Is it worth grabbing maybe from the missus as a gift for Xmas or shouldn't i bother?

I have all the others i just never really tried them as im into fast paced C&C/Starcraft type strategy games and i find these quite slow
 
Well if its a xmas present then why not, I should imagine patches 7 will be out that address AI. At the moment the game is quite fun even with the bugs and gameplay issues but it has come along way already compared to release.
So umm yeahi would get it:)
 
I'm certainly enjoying it. All these factions - rather than just a few main ones plus rebels - make the game feel so much more alive.

I really need to get the hang of this diplomacy lark, though. Lesson one: do not enter into a military alliance with an expansionist/unreliable faction. Syracuse's ill-advised forrays into Greece have ballooned into us being at war with most of the Eastern half of the map. Syracuse itself has just been taken by Bithynia, and now Pergammon and Macedon have landed large armies on Italian soil.

I think I might actually lose this one :eek:
 
So, with patch 7 out is this worth buying now? I'm only interested in the campaigns, will be auto resolving all battles. :)

Seems a bit of a waste, but hey. The campaign map certainly feels more alive than it has in previous games, as every region is owned by a faction rather than having a few main ones and a bunch of passive 'rebels'.

And it runs beautifully at max settings on my rig.

My version is V .170 build 8418473644

Should I have the Bactrian faction now, or has it not been released yet? I heard it was free LC but haven't played for a while and have lost touch with the omni-shambles that is RTW2.
 
Any one else getting massive slowdowns? not played it for a few weeks started again the other day ithad been fine till then now nearly every time one of my city gates gets destroyed I am getting serious slow downs FPS is fine but currently it is taking 34 seconds real time for every 1 second game time :(

Tried lots of things nothing seems to work disabling crossfire turning the settings down quit the game a few times rebooted the PC and it still dose it exact same point every time as soon as the destroy my gate the game goes in to slow motion playing on legendry so cant go back to an old save either :(
 
Validate your local content on steam mate. Also delete .ini file quick google for rome total wars 2 graphics setting ini will give you the location.

Try a fresh campaign also after you have done the above. Let me know if the issue continues.

Never gotten on with the battles. Always loved the campaigns. And I've played every TW apart from Napoleon\Shogun II. I just really enjoy the campaign aspect.

So if that's running OK, I might grab a copy. Is the system still similar to Empire where each region grows and eventually supports more towns\ports? Or have they changed it again?
 
The game isn't that bad now, they just need to fix sieges & the poor performance - most of the rest of the problems have already been fixed (by either the devs or mods).

It's nowhere near as bad as some people make out, just disappointing mostly.

On the subject of Rome, the new mod looks interesting - a campaign focused around Caesar & the Gauls.
