Rome 2 : Total War

Only used one mod which balances 'squalor' in the game, makes it a bit more realistic to handle.

Any you recommend?

I like Rome Total War with RTRPE MOD, and Metro Naval mod.

The latest RTR is 7.0 - but I didn't like it as much as earlier iterations such RTRPE which I believe has more in common with earlier RTR's such as 6.4 etc.

Sequence is - RTW>1.3 patch>1.5 patch> Barb Invasion> BI 1.6 patch (you can skip BI + BI patch altogether, I don't think it makes any difference)>RTRPE>Metro naval mod

I've got all the mods and patches in a folder if you want them.

Alternatively you could try RTR 7.0 and see what you think, I had a look and preferred my old mod set up for RTW.

For MTW2 - Try Stainless Steel mod which I think is fantastic, you'll need Kingdoms expansion though.

TWC is an all-around good site for the series and hosts tons of mods.

I'm starting to worry now. Was it only 8 playable factions they said?

We've had Rome, Britain, Gaul, Carthage, Macedon and now Germans.

That only leaves 2 spaces for Eactern factions! Very dissapointing.
Will we be seeing Egypt, Parthia, Seleucid, Armenia? Something else?

surely that's just to start off with?

rome had 4 factions at first.

Too many mickey mouse factions, where's the Seleucid's. :D They were all I played in the the original. Phalanx's and elephants, baby!

Naw. Thrace was where it was at. Bastarnae were just hard.

I actually love E:TW, my problem with it is it is unstable:

It crashes randomly.
It corrupts savegames, sometimes rendering hours of gameplay lost.

I don't have that problem with Shogun 2, that one is solid.

Shogun 2 won't even launch for me. Never has. On two different PCs. Windows 7, Windows 8, ATi, NVidia, Intel or AMD. My configuration has changed completely, my drivers are all up to date and I've tried every 'fix' I can find. Still won't work. I'm not the only one either, but as it's 'a small percentage of users' CA aren't interested. Sega has NOT been good for them TBH. £30 wasted makes me reluctant to buy Rome 2 in case the same thing happens...

Empire was buggy, but at least it ran. Napoleon is possibly my favourite TBH. Empire's problems are fixed and I love playing as Prussia - they're in that awkward position where they're on nobody's side and nobody particularly likes them. Both sides would equally like to crush you and accept your help, and one wrong move can be costly (finding yourself at war with France and the coalition on VH/VH is... interesting).

A surpising amount of emphasis on Western EU factions. I was expecting more Eastern ones by now.

I think there's some weird logic that says people like to play as their 'home' nation, and that's why they've made sure there's playable factions from Britain, France and Germany. I remember them discussing it a lot on the run-up to Empire's launch, and it was one of the reasons for the 'Road to Independence' campaign - let the yanks play as the yanks and more of them will buy the game.

The last two surely must be the Selucid Empire and the Ptolemaic Kingdom? I've got a horrific feeling that they'll ditch one of them for an Iberian faction though...

Another tribe???

Seriously???

Poor. Far more interesting possible factions out there.

They've messed up only having 8 factions and added more 'inner factions'.

This game won't reach close to its full potential until it is modded properly, which could take years.
