Rome 2 : Total War

Last faction has got to be the Ptoly's now. Still think there's one too many barb factions.

Other than that complaint everything looking good so far. This should be amazing when modders get a hold of it.

If shogun 2 is anything to go by, factions will be released periodically as DLC.

With only one faction slot left, will it be Ptolemys Egypt or the Selucid Empire or perhaps a faction even further east (does the map extend further this time around?)

I'm thinking Egypt.

Hopefully they'll actually do it properly with heavy Helenistic influence rather than the crazy out of date stuff they had before >_>

Agreed. I'm hoping this this is really moddable, the vanilla versions are good to play, but it's the mods that really make this series.

I'm STILL playing RTW1 (modded).

Sounds about right, not played Shogun 2 yet though.

I agree on Egypt.

What mods you still playing for Rome 1 im guessing RTR.
Shogun 2 is very good especially with the darthmod.

As much as I thoroughly enjoyed Shogun 2, I didn't find it as replayable as Rome (still playing!).

With Rome 2, we should get a great deal of diversity, with culture, unit rosters, geography, climate etc.

The new naval invasion feature should be good, it has always been a problem with Total War games that the AI does not transfer land armies with any effectiveness via sea. This should hopefully put an end to that.

Who to play as first...

I quite like playing an underdog like the Iceni, but I'm thinking maybe starting with Rome til I find my feet with the game.

Rome 2 so far has about 700 unit varations.
Im gonna leave Rome last and play all the others on short campaign on Hard then finaly play as rome and do the Domination campaign. Thats gonna be some serious hours.
If your up to it when it comes out maybe me and you start a mp campaign:)

That would be brilliant!

Playing MP campaign when the game is new with lots to discover would be right up my street, I'm happy to play as any faction. 2 in reasonably close proximity so that we can get 2 fleets/armies involved would be ideal. :)

I have struggled to find someone to play Shogun 2 multiplayer campaign with on a regular basis. Even if the play sessions are not that frequent, just being able to go back to a campaign and progress with it would be fantastic.

The Total War games for me became a lot more enjoyable when I stopped saving/reloading when things didn't go my way ie my favourite assassin getting killed, or my fleet transporting my best general was intercepted and sunk.

I find it so hard not to do that.

I keep so many back up saves in case things go wrong :D
I just can't stand losing units

I know, it can be difficult! :D

I felt like I was cheesing the game a little when I was doing it. Once I started playing hotseat campaign with friends back in medieval 2 it actually improved my enjoyment immensely, as it wasn't an option.

Do you go for that 30-40% chance kill on an enemy general at the risk of your assassin, or elect to take out easier targets to improve his experience?

The consequence of not taking out the general could be a much tougher land battle the subsequent turn.

Save-reload destroys that tension and risk/reward gameplay. I found the same thing with UFO: Enemy Unknown.

Give it a go, once you get over the first few losses you won't look back! :)

An ironman option would be ideal.

Yes, but not the latest RTR (7.0) I took a look but was underwhelmed. I think i'm playing 6.4.

I use Metro Naval Mod too, I think Darth is included in that IIRC, I use the RTRPE mod switch version of RTR.

Shogun 2 is on my list to buy and i'll mod it straight it away prob with Darth is that's the best out there.

I play MTW2 with Stainless Steel, that's excellent too.

Too true. I started doing this when I was playing Empire and it really made the game so much better. Then Iu went back and did it with Rome and M2 - it made them feel so Fresh!!

Now the only time I save is either if I'm playing a long time (in case of crash) or before turning it off :P

I really fancy that third age mod (does it require kingdoms?), is it a real faff to have two installs?

Not buying games at moment, saving up for a new TV, but will definitely try it.

I got put off Empire and Nap and never played either. But if the price is right I will do.

Need another HD though!!! I could do with two new drives really, 128GB SSD is not big enough for STEAM W7 and programs, I want to put STEAM on a dedicated 256GB M4.

My HDD is full too!!! Want a 1TB one really, maybe 2TB.

When you get into building your own PC's, you never stop spending!!!

:)

Yeah it requires Kingdoms.
Empire and Nap are a good game with darthmod. But me personally aint a fan of that era so didnt put much time into it. Thats what i like about Total War series you got different periods in history to pick from. I think i played kingdoms the most especially with mods. But the winner for me was Rome i just love that period.
I got steam by itself on a 500gb HDD ive only got abut 10gb left.
Im thinking of getting a new monitor, even though mines good i just want an even better one.....
