and considering it's set in the Ancient world with Rome as the primary focus (of the advertising at least) how exactly did you expect it to look?

its the campaign map? If you play it purely campaign map. it is very similar to Civ

But in this you can enter the fight and command the armies...

How do you guys think MP will play out ? I have never really bothered with it TW mp wise. I see people mentioned that units move faster now more arcadey a criticism, but meh looked alright to me. Might make MP better in a way?

I just loved the "hero" style units you could get in MP. The elite units that ranked up were great fun in sieges against 5 x the number of enemy troops. I've sometimes battled to the last few men and won with exhausted elite units. Hope they keep them
