Rooney has just been stretchered off. OH NOOO

Rooneys out for 6 weeks with a fractured metatarsel bone in his foot - according to the official mufc website...

Dont no if this has already been posted but couldn't be bothered to read through all of the posts :p

Anyway bad news realy, lets just hope he heals quickly and is able to get fit ready for englands first match on 10th june

Ahh...

I think even without rooney we have a great chance to do well... even though rooney will make it... but in the event of some serious bad luck from now til then we can do great.

gerrard is going to be the man of the tournament

i just hope sven doesnt take too many recently injured/recovered players - by the look of it that could include:
terry - not really serious though
cole - out for a long while so out of condition but naturally fit
king
campbell
rooney
owen

on another note i hope lennon gets the nod in the squad and sven cuts out too many useless central midfidlers we know won't play. he is exciting and if rooney does miss out could be an alternative albeit not so good.

I'm not so sure. Both Clichy and Cole played in the same reserve game yet Clichy was considered the fitter, and he was out longer (Cole got back to match fitness) Arsenal have 4 games left and I don't think he'll play them all.

why are some people negative little ***s

some guy on 606 saying owen and rooney are probably out.. what a load of negative balls.

owen will be there for sure.

and rooney will be there.... maybe for the last group game.

gets on my nerves people just expecting the worst.

you know what mate, most callers that ring up 606 know **** all tbh :o

this is such a shame, but he's made of tough stuff and could pull through, this injury takes between 4 - 8 weeks to heal, so you never know!

i would play cole in his role, tricky little bugger done well yesterday

Id just like to chip in and say that as long as we have owen and crouch its not at all bad.

I think crouch has a lot to offer, as long as he's playing with a striker with pace we will be fine.

i think we should take him to the world cup play crouch owen and see how we get on on group stage and if we have to win a game to qualify for KOs then play rooney.I think we are strong enough to finish top of group without rooney anyways

Well the group doesn't look too tough: Paraguay (can turn on the style), Trinidad and Tobago (know very little apart from that they are some African country) and Sweden (only real threat IMO). Shouldn't have too much problem there in group stage.

However, how many times have we seen England outplayed by lesser teams which we should've crushed? What usually happens is that attack just doesn't do much (Crouch is nothing more than someone you want on corners as he's tall, I don't have much faith in his technical ability, he looks rather awkward on the ball) and we start to sit back and just get bodies in the box. At this point I feel like punching the walls as we can't even get out of our own half. People like Owen just stand there and get swarned by 4 defenders when balls get kicked up the field (he's not exactly the powerful forward who muscles with defenders but at least his aerial ability seemed to have improved).

What we need is another forward with him just like Rooney who battles with defenders, who runs forward and isn't scared to have a tussle. I can't see Crouch doing that at all. Defoe and Bent might put up a fight but they aren't exactly strong. Someone like Heskey (but who can actually shoot) would be perfect but I just can't see anyone who's like that at all (apart from Rooney). My image of England squad seemed to have changed lately from a team that's capable of winning cups but that's just unlucky to a team that's actually may not be that good.

No they were always breaking them, its just it was always called a broken "foot". Only when Beckham done it there was so much interest that we were all given a lesson on "metatarsals", so now we get told to accurate name of the bone.
Ok then I'll put it this way. What's with players & feet nowadays.
Broken ankles & legs have always been common but broken bones in your feet (pedantic enough?) have not & are definitely more frequent now.
