Rooney has just been stretchered off. OH NOOO

I think it's all hype.
He got onto the team bus using crutches.
Surely if he had been seriously injured he would have gone straight to one of the local hospitals. Bare in mind that West london has the Best hospitals in the country.

I also agree that the current boots offer no ankle support at all.
I personally take no pleasure in his injury and wish him a speedy recovery but i won't beleive the crap i have been told and read.
I would not be surprised at all if Alex uses this as an oppurtunity to shield him from all the usual WC crap build up our players have to go through.

It bothers me that the whole team and manager will be hunted down like animals and harrassed to the max prior and during our world cup campaign.
I wish the papers/media would do something to help our nations team and not continually attack all involved.

I would'nt bother with Defoe his form has been poor for us all season he aint the player he was at the end of last season.

Would Gemany have won the WC without Klinsman

Would Argentina have won without Maradonna

Would France have won without Zidane

I very much doubt we would have made the semi in '90 without Gazza

I dunno but this is how but this is how important Rooney is to us.

What is it with players & metatarsals nowadays
Poofy boots? training? diet?

Its the boots, the material used is too thin in the upper and the soles are far to flexible.
Your foot is twisting and flexing all over the place.

Strikers these days tend to wear boots like "Nike Mercurial Vapours" which even when compared to other expensive boots like the Super Novas i used to wear its like wearing nothing but a pair of socks.
And kind of funny impact or knock while you foot is in the "running" motion and its in serious danger of getting broken.

Poofy boots?

Probably :(
It looked to me like he got the injury when he grounded his foot after the tackle, rather than the tackle itself doing the damage.Like the Smith injury,it came for no good reason too :( Smithy trying to block a shot 40+yds out,Rooney trying to make something happen in a game that was already lost.

Was the first game wearing is new Nike boots as well wasnt it?

They just showed the tackle on Goals on Sunday, obviously no blame can be directed at Ferreira, but you could clearly see all of his weight was focused via his knee on the back of Rooneys foot, pushing it into the ground.

Having more time to think about it, I personally dont think he will be fit enough to play, and a change of tactics is needed. 4-5-1 with either Lampard or Gerrard playing in behind the striker (whoever that may be).

It would mean we can play Carrick in a holding role, and Gerrard, Lampard, Cole and Beckham could do what they do for their clubs without having the midfield comprimised.

No they were always breaking them, its just it was always called a broken "foot". Only when Beckham done it there was so much interest that we were all given a lesson on "metatarsals", so now we get told to accurate name of the bone.

Presuming Owen will be fit, i don't think that will work. Playing one up front doesn't suit Owen at all. Where as Crouch up front alone is a different matter..........:D

I would love to be able to say we'll be fine without him, but then I remember Euro 2004. We looked dominant, he got injured and we got knocked out same game.

He's our talisman. It would be like Brazil without Ronaldinho (IMO a greater loss than Ronaldinho because of his work ethic), still good without him, but you can't help but think they are nothing like the same side without him.

Well the news this morning is that there is no new damage to Owen's foot, so it looks like he will play.

In any case, I wouldnt expect Sven to make such radical changes anyway :p

So is Beattie injured? Surely he should be picked before Bent, Crouch and Defoe?

in my opinion ( :) ) out of the 4 you've mentioned he'll probably be at the bottom of the list. hes scored 10 goals this season (all comps - 35 apps). he has hit form lately but i think its too late. the likes of bent, in his debut season, has been banging goals in all season (42 apps 20 goals). beattie doesn't have the pace that bent has, he can't outrun defenders.

my choice from your list:

defoe (ok he hasn't had a good season but hes small, fast, and unpredictable)
crouch (tall.defenders can't handle him - different option)
bent (allround player, can finish well, tall and fast)
beattie (more or less the same physique as bent but inferior imo ofcourse)

so to wrap it up, i dont think beattie is good enough for international level.

How many players have we all seen kiss a badge and pledge the only football career they're ever going to have to one club to then join a different club. Or do you just see the players who join Man Utd?

Right, so Rooney had it coming to him because he wanted to win trophies and play in the Champions League? He is on average wages at Man Utd, so that would rule the ££££.

What do people think about moving Stevie G into the Rooney role?

I think he would do a good job, he practically plays that role for Liverpool anyway which is primarily the reason he has scored so many goals this season. He is very good at getting forward, excellent vision and his passing is spot on.

i think its a good idea because it gives both lampard and gerrard a chance to play in the same team as well as positions where they can play their best football.

however, i doubt sven would try it out. hopefully we won't need to. fingers crossed! :)

this probably sounds crazy but i would play owen upfront with shaun wright philips along side him

dunno about that. But maybe try joe cole in the rooney position and SWP on the left. Even though he hasn't done much for chelsea this season, i think SWP could well be important in the world cup, especially if the rooney injury is as bad as expected.
