I'm sure Prince Harry Kane, who didn't score a single goal in the last tournament, will pick up the baton and continue our proud heritage of doing naff all at International tournaments.
We never had a golden generation that statement ***** me off no end, we won nothing with this so called golden generation, if we won somthing then it would have been a golden generation, can only say Spain had the golden generation they won titles on the bounce
It was a generation of great talent that never worked together and all had same issue couldn't cross that line one the big stage.
In regards to rooney as much as I don't like him he can only score past what's put in front of him weather that's weak teams or not.
It's long over due imo and he should have retired long ago. Besides sturridge/kane we don't have many other players who have been given any chances.
Sturridge is a sick note as it is, Kane did naff all himself when given the chance too
We had a generation of talent that dazzled the club competitive environment. It should have translated into national achievement but weak managemen meant that the group of talented individuals never formed a team unit.
I strongly suspect the reason why he's announced his retirement is because Southgate wasn't going to pick him. What i want to know is why Southgate was even considering picking him

You fail to mention the teams he scored most of those goals against.
Should have retired years ago.
the only reason they "dazzled" at club level is because most of them were surrounded by 6+ foreign world class players. When they got together in the England squad none of them had a clue as evidenced by the terrible lack lustre performances againts pretty much every team they from around 2000 onwards, notable examples include the defeats to Iceland, the 4-1 thrashing by Germany in the Euro's, the 1-0 defeat to NI in a qualifier.
It's not really the players fault, I blame the greed of the premier league and the pressure all the clubs put their managers under without giving them the time needed to actually bring talent through the team. Look at teams like City, Chelsea, Man U (post Fergie) they are just trying to buy wins rather than actually build a decent squad by bringing home grown talent through their academies. Then all England managers have made the same mistakes of just picking the household names from those clubs rather than take a chance on actually picking players that have really proved themselves from teams like say Bournmouth or Burnley purely through fear of media crucifixion.
This countries football is properly in the bin and will stay there untill the premier league stops choking the life out of it or the England managers and the FA grow some balls and tell the media to do one.
I don't really follow footie that much but I never got why Rooney gets so much grief, his goal scoring record speaks for itself.
It all depends on your definition of world class Loki. Cole was one of if not the best LB in the world for years, Lampard and Gerrard were 2 of the best midfielders in the world for prolonged periods. How many seasons did Rooney perform on the same level of the best forwards around? 1 or 2.
Rooney's had a very good career and broke a lot of records but mainly due to the length of his career rather than through how well he played.
