Rooney retires from international football

England have had plenty of world class players over the years but the likes of Gerrard, Lampard, Scholes and Rooney all had to compete for the same space on the pitch and time on the ball and it didn't help any of them excel on the world stage.

Hopefully now the team's full of **** the few standout players we have will be able to perform at a level they're expected to perform at.
 
For all the talk about crap opposition, if you look at his closest England goalscoring rivals over the years most of them didn't have it much harder. Gary Lineker played against some dross don't forget at a time when some international teams weren't much cop, e.g. he got two hattricks against Turkey (in the 80s before they were any good), 4 vs Malaysia, so that's double figures just from 3 games vs pub teams.
Bobby Charlton? Hattricks in a 7-1 vs USA, 7-0 vs Luxembourg, 7-0 vs Mexico, 8-1 vs Switzerland so again that's four matches were he scored hattricks but still got less than half the goals in all those matches, which tells you something about the calibre of opposition.

Let's be honest most strikers bagging ~50 international goals will have got a fair few of them against mediocre opposition; in fact due to seeding the system is pretty much designed to enforce that. In qualifiers you get at most four difficult matches out of perhaps twelve.
 
Peter Crouch had as good an England scoring record as Rooney, the main difference is Crouch wasn't an automatic squad selection and shoehorned into every formation because of his name and as such he didn't play as many games. Rooney's record is more a result of his longevity than him being a world class player or anything. In fact I believe Crouch's record is better when you base the stats on the amount of time played.

These stats are pre-2011 which were Rooney's best years for England.

According to the DM he was driving a 29 year old woman home in her own car, talk about busted.

Well if his wife lets him get away with affairs, including getting off with aged, toothless grannies of the night when she was pregnant, this will probably seem minor in comparison.

Money talks, eh.
 
That's all his sponsorship gone. He's already been caught with prostitutes - now caught driving a glamourous looking woman home in HER car after being seen hugging and kissing the woman. Got something to tell us Wayne?
