Rooney's Derby Goal

Pretty much. Most of his playing career he was at Napoli where literally won titles for them by himself.

i dont really count the very twilight years where footballers take money for a year or so in some country like USA or Australia to retire.

But Maradona was still world class even at 1994 world cup (34 yrs) when he had been out of the game for a while. (playing only a handful of games for Newell's Old Boys)

Watch some youtube clips of him vs greece and nigeria at that world cup. He still had the magic.

Nah, he was a filthy cheating scumbag. If they could take 1 goal away retrospectively it would be that one. I would have banned him for life for THAT handball. Fat drug addicted turd!

Handball? I thought he outjumped Shilton... ;)

The sad thing (if that's the correct phrase) about the "Hand Of God" is that people concentrate on that goal and often forget the second goal he scored in that game which is one of the best ever scored in a World Cup. In case you've forgotten it's here and it would deserve to win any game.

The second goal was probably the best individual goal I have ever seen. (I'm sure there are other contenders one could bring to the table)

However he shouldn't have been on the pitch for the second for what he did for the first. Defenders get sent off all the time for denying goal scoring chances with their hands. Why aren't attackers sent off for the same thing at the other end?

tbh i didn't think rooney deserved to even score that goal he was having a nightmare match touch was terrible all day done nothing right until that moment of magic he was going for flop of the match definately until that went in.

He was hardly playing that badly. Bearing in mind of course that he was up against TWO centre backs on his own. They showed it in the final match analysis, the ball was coming in from a cross and he was the only one in there, how is he ever going to win anything like that? The only time things changed is when Fletcher finally got forward and supported him and he had a great chance from a Giggs cross.

*Ahem* just for the record it won both BBC and Sky's Goal of the Season competitions

But it woz luky n nt dat gud coz it came of hiz shin!!!111

Fluke simple, how do you shin a overhead kick into the net.

He couldn't even time it right.

Not bad

OMG

Chest, control bam, greatest finish I have ever seen on a tv screen.

I don't like "goal" of the season because it was a shot, that's all goal of the season is these days, just a shot that goes in speculator what about well passed and worked moves that create a "goal" never get a look in.

Also who voted for it!

Berbatov v Liverpool should have got it.

Rooney's goal was class with a little luck, the timing etc was spot on.
but Berbatov's was just pure skill. Controlled on top of leg and then doing it is a lot harder then throwing yourself in the air hoping to catch it properly.

(I am not just saying this because the Rooney one was v City)

Rivaldo's was good but thats not the hardest skill in the world. When we were younger we would try to tee it up and do overhead kicks; a fair few of them went in.

Try doing that with the ball coming across your body as high as rooneys was. Rivaldo was shooting straight behind him as well, not an angle to beat the keeper. There is a reason it was goal of the season.

I love that goal, remember it well. Close to the best goal I've ever seen as well. Rooney's shin has nothing on Rivaldo's.
