Ross Brawn back to Ferrari?

Hi, as Brawn joined Honda in November 2007 I think that the only contribution he had to the honda then was his name, money and that he that managed to get hold of a mercedes engine to shoe-horn into the chassis when honda pulled out. As we know cars are designed and developed in the previous season thus the Honda must have been bloody good aerodynamically anyway.

I'm aware it's against the rules :p

That's why I said "pulled off", as in, if the country was obscure and the track hidden away they'd get away with it

If someone managed to build a race track and run an F1 car on it 24/7 without anyone noticing I'd give them the Championship trophies myself :p

Well the previous Ferrari's have been a lot of things, but definitely not rubbish, just look at HRT :p

Newey is just too creative. He knows loopholes too well.

It's not just his creativity, he seems massively dedicated as well.

It might be that the media has only chosen to focus on him, but we've seen him do grid walks, trying to work out other teams aeros.

We've also seen him, I think twice, (at least recently), looking at damage from various red bulls to try and gauge the effect it has on real conditions. I'm pretty sure at some point when a front wing was damaged he was looking at it after it was taken off, to try and work out what had happened, and at Brazil we saw him with pictures of the car trying to work out how the damage might harm the car.

The man isn't just a creative genius, he's unbelievably dedicated, and clearly has a massive passion for what he does. He also clearly is highly intelligent, and at the top of his field.

I can long see the constructors trophies rolling in for Red Bull, 2014 might bring some change due to reliability, but who knows.

It's arguable (I'm not saying it's the sole reason), that Seb's win this season was mostly down to the upgrade brought in just before Asia. Whilst the constructors championship is sealed in my opinion (so long as reliability stays the same), I really feel that the WDC will also be sealed for a Red Bull driver, so long as they're in the top, say 5, drivers that season on the grid.

Mercedes always trumped any money offer from McLaren. But he didn't just leave for that. He left for the new challenge and the fresh start. The McLaren team now is not the Lewis focused Ron and Daddy love in that it was in 2008. There are claims that his relationship with Ron has gone a bit sour and its very obvious that he isn't always that happy at McLaren.

Sometimes people just need a change. It doesn't matter if its for the worse, the better, or the unknown, its the actual change itself that motivates them.

I thought McLaren offered to make him the best paid driver in F1 next year? Or was that fabricated?

Seems like it may have been fabricated. The write up in F1 racing said McLaren went as high as about £14m, and Merc kept beating it eventually offering £19m.

Brawn leaving? Well I'd be surprised, especially as he took the time to sit down and discuss the vision he had with Lewis. It's been reported that vision is one of the things that lured Lewis across.

As for Lewis, certainly not just about the money.

Lewis has already spoken about the vision and bringing that Mercedes car up to speed. He's also been quite vocal on how he is looking forward to more time to himself as Mercedes have significantly less commitments for their drivers outside of the racing e.g. marketing, sponsorship stuff. I would think that is a huge pull

McLaren drivers are reportedly committed to between 50 and 70 days of promotion and things outside of race weekends. Red Bulls driver commitments are in single figures. The Mercedes contract is reported much lower too.

also seeing people claim DD was brawns idea when it wasnt and DDRS is biggest joke of the season merc even took it off because it was such a fail

Well its been on record that Brawn mentioned the DD in the TWG meetings in 2008 and everyone ignored him (in regards to there being a hole in the rules)

As it didnt exist before then, I think its fair to say he was one of the main people behind its initial guise.

(Obviously there were (2?) other teams with DD along with Brawn in Mel 2009, so at least two other engineers had similar ideas, but no way of knowing if this originated from TWG comments or not)

Thats fair enough, but its been widely stated (I believe it to be true, but it may not be the case) that Hamilton at Merc can pull in a huge increase in personal deals away from the team when compared to McLaren, so the Merc basic wage is a much smaller % of LH's annual income when compared to the last few years
