No, I know - but he is still a good coach. IIRC a few coaches left with Rafa, so I guess he wanted some personal coaches in.

And nope, I think he went into retirement after the World Cups, or similar. I'm not sure if all the stuff coming out into the press is true anyway, as Hodgson/similar would be a prime target for anything regardless.

It could well be untrue, just something I find ironic that some people say that Dalglish would be no good because he has been out of the game for too long, yet a guy who has been retired (or so it would seem) for most of the last 20 years is considered ok to be, not only A coach, but to be head first team coach.

Assuming that reports are true of course, it could just be that he is only goalkeeping coach, which would make more sense.

I still think that if its true that Reina has an issue with it, I can understand why as it must be somewhat odd to have a 68 year old who hasnt been in goal for over 30 years training the number 2 of the current world champions :D

(then again I am biased towards Reina so I would back him anyway :D )

Heh, wait till you see him training the keepers at half time, it looks ridiculous the little warmup/training he does!

At Fulham he was the Asst, and at Half Time/pre-match he would only work with the keepers, but barking out orders from the sideline, although I think he's more of a standard coach at Liverpool, seems he is normally in the stands?

Probably a health and safety issue getting someone of his age down the steps to the touchline :D

Hodgson or Kelly? :p

Both :D

A win today was great? But still wont be fully happy with roy till we get consistent wins today his plan worked however if he goes back to his old tactics right after and makes the team useless it means nothing

I was more happy that Torres scored today tbh, I hope it does wonders for his confidence :) Wonder if Roy see's how playing 442 is better than Torres as the lone Striker. Although still think Gerrard should be a deep midfield player and have either Kuyt or Ngog as the second CF.

Apparantly he has now said this which is one of reasons he does my head in

The under-fire boss oversaw the most promising display of his fledgling Anfield career as his charges strode to a 2-1 win. After weeks of criticism due to perceived dour play, the ex-Fulham boss was pleased to see his charges put in a performance like "the Liverpool of yore."

"I don't think we can play a lot better than we did against Blackburn," Hodgson was quoted as saying by Press Association Sport.

"With the team we have at the moment, if people expect us to really play a lot better football than we did for 70 minutes at the start of the Blackburn game they are going to be asking a lot.

"What could happen is we could get a lot more goals for that performance but I don't think we could play better.

"We conceded next to no goal chances, we pressurised the ball and won it back quickly, our passing and movement was good and it was only good goalkeeping, some goal-line saves and a few blocks which made the difference.

"It could have been a clear victory so I suppose for me it is much more a case of wanting the team to continue along these lines and, most importantly, continue to battle because we are in a battling situation.

"We are still closer to the relegation zone than we are to the top of the table and if we get beat next week at Bolton we are suddenly back to square one again.

"There is nothing to do other than keep working at it.

"We need to show a bit of humility and accept if we are not the Liverpool of yore we will try to become it."

Okay well why would you say we cant do better? We can imo and even if he thinks it you dont say it in our current situation. These sort of comments dont help the team especially if their to the press (See bits in bold most annoying part to me)

Yesterday's victory hasn't changed my opinion of Hodgson - he's not the right man for Liverpool and needs to move on.

No offense to Schwarzer or Stockdale, but I dont consider them at the same level as Reina.

To be fair this sort of thing is rife within football, superstar players being coached by former pros who never reached the same levels. Not saying whether I think that is good or bad, just that it happens a lot and has done for years.

I don't think how good the coach was as a player is the be all and end all. Xavi Valero (our goalkeeping coach under Rafa) never played at the top level but he played a huge part in Reina's development.

Coaching is about your ability to teach and learn the game yourself, you don't really have to be a world class player to analyse and understand football and then find a good way to communicate it, as long as you were a good player and have an understanding of football.

I think Roy is still getting a bit of a tough ride, people are reading into every word he says and taking it for the worst. Also critising coaches playing ability and stuff like that is disingenuous, Wenger wasn't a great player, nor some of the Arsenal first team coaching staff

I agree that some people are going over board and are becoming rude and personal but I have little sympathy for him. You can only give him the benefit of the doubt so many times.

As I've said many times, he should have never got the job but since taking over he's only gone on to prove I was spot on. He's not got what it takes to manage Liverpool; not just the poor start, the negative attitude on and off the pitch but simple things like understanding the club and it's supporters.

He already had an uphill task winning over supporters but the day criticised supporters protesting against the owners and brushed them off as 'a group of people' that he has to live with, his task increased ten fold.

And Torres, he studied opponents keepers and helped Torres know exactly where and how to shoot, situation pending obviously, "X is week on his left side, you can round him easily that way" as an example.
-edit-
Etoo has also come out and said that XV is helping him with his scoring. Although i just think its down to him being played as a Striker again rather then a winger! He's never had trouble scoring in the past. He's the kind of Striker Rafa likes as well i guess, in the Torres mould where as Milito is more of a Drogba type, and thus got preference by Maureen.

Anyway, the BBC 'chief' sports guy was just on the Radio saying that as of last night Roy has been demoted to head-coach. And someone else in charge of tactics is being searched for as we speak. Along with Kenny being made the new Director of Football - in charge of youth development and transfers.

Mind you, Xavi wasnt out of football for 13 years and last goalkeeped (sp?) professionally almost 30 years ago. If Dalglish has been out of the game for too long , as some people would have us believe, then the same should apply to someone who has barely worked in the last 20 years and hasnt played professionally for nearly 30.

After last night, I have complete faith in Roy.

I had the chance to have a wonderful meeting with Roy at Anfield, where he outlined his plans for the January transfer window, and I must say I am impressed, if they pull off 2 of the 4 signings he said he would, then I will be very happy. He also talked openly to me about how NESV are backing him 100% and this will be shown in January with the money he is given.

Torres was also there and he said he is going nowhere and is 100% committed to Liverpool and will honour his contract.

Sadly, I then woke up and realised it was all a dream. :(
