The Telegraph are reporting that the owners are now considering appointing a caretaker, something they were said to be totally against doing. If true then either the man they want won't be available until the summer or they've lost total faith in Hodgson. Both perfectly possible.

And re Johnson. Prior to the lazy pass towards the end of the game today he's actually been very solid defensively in the last 2 games, making several covering tackles and last ditch blocks.

I fail to see how Johnson can be good defensively but I'll take Baz's word.

Baz if a caretaker came in, anyone in mind?

Interesting question:

- Who would you take instead of Roy (realistically, no "OMG MOURINHO")?
- Would you take Rafa back if he wanted the job?

:)

Dalglish, Deschamps, Di Matteo, Rijkaard, van Gaal, Villas Boas.

There are quite a few names if you just apply the stipulations of "not Roy", but those are appointments I'd be optimistic about.

I'd also be happy if they brought Rafa back, that's not to say that I think they should though.

Would love villas boas. Seems perfect to me. Young, speaks fluent English, plays attacking, attractive football and has had superb results so far!

Just watching MOTD here. Tell you what, nowt Hodgson can do about complete planks like Glen Johnson being terrible footballers.

Well, there is. If the player is that bad, play Kelly instead. End of the day the manager picks the team, if a player is on the pitch who is poor when there is a viable alternative then thats the managers fault.

I wouldnt want Rafa back.

I would happily take Dalglish (in the short term unless excelling) , Deschamps or Rijkaard.

The obvious choice would be Dalglish.

I'd take Benitez back over Hodgson but that still wouldn't be the best solution for the club. We need a fresh start and so does Benitez. He wouldn't come back with Comolli around anyway.

Deschamps stands out to me from all the names linked at the moment.

What about Martin O'Neill?

Seemed to make Villa into a reasonable side, with funds available he could get the club back into the Euro spots?

Having nobody there at all would be better than Woy, he seems to be completely uninspiring to the Liverpool players.

He looked lost on the sidelines yesterday.

Dalglish imo, would be a disaster, love him to bits, but he just hasnt dont anything in football for so long now.

As it stands, we have a game or 2 in hand, if we win those, we have a chance to get 6th. Hodgson is clearly the wrong man, but its pointless to pin the blame solely on him, we have been poor for a season and a half, and that points to some sort of a disease running through the club, we've got rid of one tumour with the yanks, I think there either is a legacy of that or something else isnt right, as we were this poor under Rafa tbh.

Its a shame we havent got anyone coming up through the ranks to take over, football has changed that much now, there was a time where we had managers in waiting. How about Phil Thompson:p

I'm not convinced that dalglish would be a disaster, he hasn't managed for a long time but he is a long way from not doing anything in football. He still watches training, he still knows the players and their strengths and weaknesses, he watches almost every match, he talks with the players. I would be perfectly happy with dalglish as caretaker until the permanent manager is in place. It's been a while and times have changed but he is still one of only 3 managers to ever win the league while managing 2 different teams, I think as caretaker he might just surprise some of the naysayers. At the least I don't think he would be any worse than Roy

Not having a dig, but do you really think Dalgish would come in and do better then Woy is at the moment? He's been out of football an awful long time iirc.

Deschamps I agree, is the stand out name and would / could probably come in and do well.

If Kenny was good enough for us then, he's good enough for us now.

Despite what the ***** at Sky say, the game hasn't changed in 10 years, and Kenny hasn't exactly been in solitary confinement since he stopped managing.

Yes I do. I do think that Dalglish would come in as caretaker manager and do a better job than Roy is at the moment.

Deschamps or Rijkaard I'd be happy with as the permanent manager, but I would much rather Dalglish be the caretaker manager in the meanwhile than Roy. I tend to agree entirely with Baz, Dalglish is indeed the obvious choice for that.

Kenny inherited a fantastic team in the late eighties, he couldnt have screwed it up if he wanted to.

See thats the thing, its a no lose situation for Dalglish. If he steps in as caretaker manager and doesnt do well then everyone will just say its the squad quality fault rather than him. If however he steps in as caretaker and the team starts performing well, then the Dalglish naysayers would have to eat humble pie. Win/Win for him.
