It's all about time, which he isn't been given by the fans/press.

Which of course does pose the question of how much time is enough time? What would you say? Until the end of February, would that be enough time, gives him a transfer window too. What about til the end of the year and if we're relegated then sack him? Too late to prevent the relegation but surely that would then have been sufficient time, or is it better to replace him before being relegated? I know I certainly wouldnt want to be a board member, I'd have no idea how much time is enough time.

You could give him time.. but then he's going to be fighting getting promoted from the Championship next season. He's just not performing, the players are there, they just need a manager who can get the most out of them.

It looks like his success at Fulham wasn't entirely his own doing.

He needs to go, he was never going to be right for the job, I feel for him in some ways but the way he has went about things is very small time for Liverpool. You just have to look at the players he's been linked with, mid table players. New owners, new plans for the future, needs a higher profile manager with bigger plans than just settling for what's currently happening on the field.

I'll be honest, I rated Hodgson before the move, and repeatedly counselled patience when waiting for him to produce the goods, but it is starting to look like he's unable to adapt his preferred playing style for a new team. Reminds me of Newcastle under Allardyce.

I expect he'll go if the games against Blackburn and Bolton don't bring results.

If I was a Liverpool fan I don't think I'd want O'Neill in there though. Good manager, but given how he clashed with Lerner, I'd expect he'd scare Henry right away from football.

Mind you werent the clashes with Lerner essentially due to O'neill not getting the resources to improve the team, something that it would appear wouldnt be a problem with Henry. Or maybe O'neill just clashed with Lerner as some people dont get on. Did O'neill clash with the hierarchy at Celtic or Leicester, I dont remember him doing so, so its not like he has a track record of clashing with his bosses.

I have to laugh at the 'inbred Liverpool' comment David Pleat gave when talking about Sammy Lee yesterday during the game. :D :D I don't think he quite meant the way it sounded. :p

"A journalist asked him about the lack of support for Torres. Hodgson asked if he was from Denmark, the reporter said "No, Norway". Hodgson said "Two countries I never want to work in again" and walked off."

Shocking! :(

Agree with the linked with mid table players whole heartedly

Very surprised when Liverpool signed Konchesky

He was garbage when Tottenham signed him then bombed him off.

I agree these type of players aren't top 4 side players

^^^great photo!

I'm not a Liverpool fan (far from it infact) but I did rate Roy Hodgson whilst he was at Fulham. He did a fantastic job there. The most important thing he did IMO was get the most from the players he was working with. As somebody mentioned above this is where the I think the Liverpool team are failing. The owners situation obviously hasnt helped (both backroom staff and players alike) but looking throught he team sheet from Sunday it was obvious they need to add to the squad. Come on lets face it Meireles and Lucas holding the midfield for liverpool...seriously. Now Javier Mascherano and Xabi Alonso are truely quality players that allow Gerard a free role. Konchesky is another poor buy, fine good at Fulham but I think thats his level. No real decent second striker to play with torres (ok maybe kuyt) but babel and N-GOG are terrible. Massive investment in players need (heard that before) and importantly need to get gerrard fully behind roy not only for fans but for the players too.

Again, disagree completely.
How are we supposed to play well when Roy sets out his tactics so poorly?
Roy is setting the defence on the edge of their penalty box, and midfield about 5 - 10 yards infront of them (And that includes the 'support' striker), Torres is left on his own all the way down at the other end of the pitch.
Roy wants us to play like Fulham, get the ball into Torres, he holds it up, wingers bomb up and support. But Torres isnt Zamora, he cant compete against 4 defenders.

-edit-
Because im bored! Illustration time.
Rafa

This is a rough diagram of how we played under Rafa. Once we lost the ball we pressurised and compressed, this is possible because the entire team is camping higher up the pitch. It bit us in the backside sometimes (Walcott in the CL in 2008 :p) but all in all, it benefited us a lot more then it hurt us.

Gerrard was moving to either side of the striker, striker moves into channels. The two AM's play a bit narrow in offence but were asked to move out wide to double up on the opponent wingers when hunting possession.

Fullbacks were pushed up, told to get high up the pitch to offer an outlet for the two AM's, but all in all never made any 'Evra-esque' runs down the wings.
Holding Midfielders were prepared to drop into either Fullback position if required, or force the opponents central players out wide, allowing our FB's back into position and take over the defensive duty on that side.

Now..
Roy

This is us under Roy. Torres is isolated up top on his own, and is asked to spend all day running the channels but without any support.
Theory is - he holds up play untill the AMC/Wingers can catch up.
Offensively, that is it. One of our fullbacks dare pass the halfway line? they get yelled at. Every game he has played this season, Johnson has been balled at to get back into position consistency. Konchesky is playing as he is expected to, and how Roy wants Glen to.
Our entire back line is sitting on our own penalty box, and our holding midfield players only slightly ahead.
When Gerrard plays in CM, he is yelled at to stay deep to collect the ball and spray passes (to who i hear you ask? well under Roy's tactics 99% of the time it has to go left or right). On occasion he ignores him and Roy is going ape because he's "leaving holes".

I was all for giving him time, but we havent shown any improvement or change and he thinks the Everton game was our best performance and cant understand how we lost? Probably time to retire altogether. Hope we can get rid without penalty due to this new owner clause.

Watching the game yesterday i think Raul Meireles played about 5 balls that went forward and the rest were sideways or backwards. Im talking at least 75% of passes sideways or backwards.

Next time he plays someone have a scout for me. Id love to see his passing direction stats.
