RTX 4070 12GB, is it Worth it?

Maybe because I discovered other hobbies to spend money on and gaming is just side thing I rarely play so doesn't really bother me much as I don't need the very best , others that spend more time on computer gaming it's probably different

Didnt you but 5x 3090s? FIVE? And you are criticizing me? Lolokay

As you know and explained yes for work, the original plan was to have 2 workstations with 2x 3090 in each in NVLINK, but the problem was for the second workstation was the motherboard needed (another MSI X570 GODLIKE, only board that allowed 4 space NVLINK on x570 at the time) went out of stock and when it was even available was over £1000 and when not available people were selling them for £1500+ used. so the second workstation was canned and sold two of the cards to family and a friend. Kept 3 as 1 was always going to be a spare in case I needed an RMA.

So your point being ?

Again for work not gaming..

What difference does it make? You thought its actually worth 1500 pounds or whatever you paid for it. And I believe you that it was. So why do you expect nvidia to drop it's price? I really don't get it

Because 4090's are gaming cards now 100%.. no NVLINK ... Also I explained to you before they were well priced only compared to Titan and A-Series...for work.. for gaming not so..

As you see here :-

Check this guys setup on a x570 godlike and where they ended up all these motherboards and 3090s :p.. His work didn't need NVLINK so he could use up to 4 cards in that setup.

OK so we established, that at least for work, a 3090 was worth 1500+. So now let's get back to nvidia, what should they do, price them lower to make them worth for gaming as well while they are basically offering it for free for pros, make it not able to play any games at all, or what?

Considering mine made it's money back 3 times from mining, I think the 2k euros I paid for it was a gift from Jensen. Funnily enough, it was also the worst card for mining compared to everything else ampere.

Yeah. Who knows. Might end up with a used 4090. But I doubt it. Might miss out of DLSS 4 then :p Plus the more power efficient card.
I'm wondering where they could go with DLSS from here. Maybe it generates the frame for your other eye in VR. Combined with previous versions of DLSS only a quarter of the frames are actually rendered by the traditional GPU and only an eighth of the total pixels. :D

All I've got to say is, people constantly complain about nvidias prices, but they keep buying nvidia. At some point we got to admit, since you are buying it (yes, the same people that complain are the ones buying nvidia) then maybe, maybe, MAYBE it's actually worth that much.
Sweeping generalisation much! If I'm not buying Nvidia and complaining about their prices does that mean I'm not a person. ;)

Only Nvidia knows for sure if people keep buying them despite the price, other data seems to disagree with you (decline in GPU shipments, that recent sales data chart posted a while ago). Basically 'people' who constantly complain about Nvidia's prices in don't seem to keep buying Nvidia so maybe, MAYBE, they're not actually worth that much.

A chap from this forum predicts not only will it be a substantial increase in fps and image quality, it will also improve your gaming by inserting not just fake frames, but fake key inputs :D

People buy it because there really isn't any alternative.
We are being pushed to buy stuff that we know is appallingly bad value for money.
If AMD would get their act together then the situation would be a lot better but until they do that then we are stuffed.

Fudzilla!!! Wow. That's a website I have not heared about in YEARS!

I used to love going to that site like 10+ years ago. Not sure what happened but I stopped going there and even until this day forgot it ever existed.

These days I just go to Techpowerup.com and Arstechnica.com :)

Well, there will always people would STILL buy the 4070ti 12GB over the 7900XT 20GB no matter what simply because they would only buy Nvidia, despite the 7900XT is around average 12-15% faster in games that don't use RT, and would match the 4070ti in performance in RT games (due to them being faster in raw performance) but without the funky stuttering and texture not loading in properly issue caused by running out of vram when with RT enabled.

amd and nvidia are both price fixing, even if intel had a comparable card they would just get on that gravy train too, competition doesnt exist here, just price fixing

Why I love youtubers... (sarcasm)

Love his justification on the 4070 and you will not need to worry about this that and the other and in 5-6 years you will need an update anyways.. BUT he's clearly missing the point of the issue... I will not say the V word as he clearly hasn't watched the HUB video but mentions it.. The Nvidia sponsored youtubers making sure they get a free sample soon and kissing Nvidia's a** ...

I know this guy is seen as a youtube joke too but he gets a lot of hits and his videos seem to play next a lot from other videos from other channels as just happened to me now and I don't watch his channel.

It kind of looks like the desktop graphics card market is going into a steep decline in 2023.

The best mid to high end GPU dies are going into laptops, instead of desktop graphics cards.

AMD has barely entered the market at all, except at the high end.

I guess you could say the market is healthy from a profit perspective, at the very high end.

I think the price of the RX 7900 XT makes the RTX 4090 FE look ridiculous, it's literally double the price for around 45% more performance at 4K.
