RTX 4070 12GB, is it Worth it?

At this point I feel like you are supposed to pay for more vram not to have better visuals - since youll have worse actually - but to save devs time optimizing.
I feel the same thing happened with system RAM. Devs, "No need to optimise, they've got 8/16/32Gb RAM now, let's use it."

And dlss. Instead of pushing for better visuals, they just optimize less and add dlss / fsr to fix your performance issues. Splendid.

I think people sometimes forget how of a step up 4K is, relative to 1080p and 1440p.

1080p = approx. 2 million pixels.

1440p = approx. 3.6 million pixels.

4K = approx. 8.2 million pixels.

That's why we have DLSS and FSR. Ray tracing is only a big problem on modern high end GPUs > 1080p resolution.

Here's a reminder for tomorrow's RTX 4070 launch:

We should start seeing reviews around 2PM tomorrow, for the FE.

aib reviews at the same time the following day.

It looks like cards won't be available until the 13th.

and all 40-series comes with Overwatch 2 ultimate bundle ending 8th of May

I think the price of the RX 7900 XT makes the RTX 4090 FE look ridiculous, it's literally double the price for around 45% more performance at 4K.

I actually think that makes it look like better value than previous gens, or highlights how little of a generatioanal uplift the other cards offer. Yeah the 4090 is silly expensive but its a halo product they always have been. But in the past the halo products have been silly expensive and offered 10-20% more performance. 45% was unheard of in past generations.

Anyone know what time RTX 4070 founders edition cards will go on sale on Nvidia’s website tomorrow?

Will OCUK have any 4070 cards available at launch on the 13th?

Contemplating buying one as I really need an upgrade for my GTX 970!

I'm tempted to sell the 3090 I got for £600 and get the 4070 just for the fact it'll be way more efficient and won't be nearly touching the front rad in my case :cry:

All depends on the price and performance figures we see today.

That would be a downgrade then. The 4070 matches the performance of the 3080 10GB.

I can forgo a few frames in raster, for the most part I doubt I'll notice the difference in the games I play without an FPS counter on screen. I'm also running the 3090 with a decreased power target so it may be about level with a 4070 running at full power.

It all depends on the price of the FE really. Hopefully it's closer to £500 than £600.

Pfft. We are talking NVIDIA here. How many times have we "hoped" the price would be lower?

I wouldn’t sell a 3090 for a 4070.

Even if it’s more efficient, it has half the vram.

You can buy a new case pretty cheap to be honest, probably cost less than what you would lose selling the 3090.

I don't need the VRAM at the moment as most of my game time is in competitive shooters on a 1080p 240hz monitor.

The 4070 would only be a stop gap until the 5 series is released.

Just seems like a weird move IMO, I can’t see any benefit to it.

Just keep the 3090 until the 50 series. It’s still a desirable card.

If I can switch without a financial loss, I'll be doing it, as the lower power usage and heat output, especially coming into the summer months, is a no-brainer.

Plus, I get to have a bit of a play with the 4 series exclusive features.

You'll want a new GPU by the time 32GB of VRAM (or 24GB) becomes relevant to games...

They're the easiest part in your PC to upgrade, except for DDR4/5.

It's actually not the end of the world if your PC has to fall back on system RAM sometimes.

Is this a joke?

The average DRR5 memory has about 80GB/s bandwidth and 50ns of latency.
Average GDDR6 has 600GB/s bandwidth and 10ns of latency.

You're effectively turning your RTX 3070 in to a fat iGPU.

There is a reason we don't put DDR on dGPU's anymore.....
