RTX 4070 12GB, is it Worth it?

People have been saying the exact same about the 4080 and 4090 being "stuck on the shelves" yet steam shows a fairly big uptake for them, at least, they certainly aren't "stuck on the shelves".... imagine we'll see the same with the 4070 given it is in a far more affordable pricing tier for the masses, even if it is a **** gpu.

4080 - 0.19%
4090 - 0.25%
4070 ti - 0.23%

For comparison

3080 - 2.57%
3090 - 0.43%
3070 ti - 1.98%
3070 - 5.31%

Meanwhile RDNA 3 still hasn't shown up, from RDNA 2, the only gpus that show up in the steam video cards is the 6700xt at 0.35% and 6600xt + 6600 with a combined 0.65%......

Tons of stock out there and it is selling well looking at real time stock depletion on competitors site. Jensen really did do gamers a solid with supply this time around.

To all my ampere friends on 8GB, in the words of the great Jensen Huang, it's now safe to upgrade to a 4070. It's an awesome gaming experience.

I also don't get the superiority complex people have about proudly saying, they haven't bought something.

I didn't buy an iphone, or samsung galaxy phone. How great am I? FOMO!

From someone that bought the 3080fe £650, I would have bought the 4080 £800-£850 .. most likely will wait for next gen now
I shall likely do the same, unless they do some insane refresh that ups the performance tier of ever card by 20% and lowers the price by 30%, then sure I'll bite, otherwise its Blackwell for me, and if I don't see 4080 tier performance for £599 I'll skip that too.

Jensen is selling a 4060 for $800+, a 4070 for $1200+, the guy is a genius if they make good gaming revenue the next quarter. That and the majority of gamers are just ignorant.

Yeah plenty of supply, cause pallets of GPUs are not going directly to mining farms...

New norm conditioning complete? 4070 that's £100 extra that's meant to be tier below , well done

There must have been tons of FE stock, just like there is AIB, and still sold out day one. You watch the 4070 overtake any RDNA2 and 3 cards in the steam survey over the next few months. Gamers are thirsty for a sub £600 ada card. Even that great AMD shill Steve Walton of HUB gave it a glowing review. A score of 90 and I quote.

Bottom line, the GeForce RTX 4070 is a good value product packing a strong feature set and excellent performance. We're happy that the RTX 4070 has turned out to be a product that we can recommend, and we expect this GPU to sell very well if they can meet the promised $600 MSRP.

So yes some guys that can't stetch to just under £600 are salty, but there is always AMD :p or a 4060 on the way.

He'll probably flip flop in year or 2 , personally don't think it's gonna age well at 1440p just on pure GPU grunt oh wait they have frame generation to fake it now

Speaking of frame gen, I was sceptical but now I'm a believer, It's like 120 FPS but smoother. Can't really notice the latency pen. Hogwarts went from 4k DLSS quality 70 FPS to over 100, great experience.

Underwhelmed is an understatement.

Spent 60% over their RTX3060TI FE which cost £369,to get a whole 40% extra performance. TPU gaming power consumption=200W.

The problem is the RTX3060TI was around the same price as the RTX2060 Super and offered 40% extra performance. TPU gaming power consumption=200W.

RTX2060 Super was 35% over GTX1070 for $20 more. TPU gaming power consumption=184W.

GTX1070 was 61% faster than the GTX970 for $50 more. TPU gaming power consumption=145W.

GA106:276MM2 and third tier chip.
AD104:295MM2 and third tier chip.

So technically the RTX4060 chip pushed to 200W. But in terms of performance increase and power consumption the RTX4070 isn't special.

The only thing is that it jacked up price by 60% to get there.

Confused. Stuff is usually in stock.

You make the same argument about CPUs, monitors, TVs or consoles?

Seems like people think unless crypto miners are buying up all stock, the price must be too high.

I'm not sure consoles is a good comparison. The new consoles were difficult to get for ages!

It just doesn't look like it's selling particularly well, considering the most hype will be on the first few days of release. The stock counter for a decent gigabyte AIB at the minimum RRP on a competitor site has shown they've sold 4. The biggest retailer on the planet still has minimum RRP models healthily in stock which is unheard of for a GPU release for a while.

Ducking out of this thread now, not making me very happy with my purchase!
Maybe I'm a mug, but I got sick of waiting.
Give me a time machine and I'd have bought a 3080.

It's still the best thing at that price point at the moment.

Nothing to be ashamed of if you fancied an upgrade.

Just enjoy it.
