I run my own small business, I don't employ anyone. If however, I employed people and heard that one of my employees talked back to a customer like this courier did to me, he'd be a on a yellow card. I wouldn't want one bad apple ruining my business.

Again, you aren't the "customer" so your point is pointless.

I spent over 10 years as a postie.

I used to get at least one person a week like the Op.

Making sarky comments about the time it has taken for me to get there.

Or the fact they have to pay for an item because Granny/little johhny/ or whoever forgot to put right postage on it.

I used to bite back and waste more of my time arguing with the idiots, but soon realised it was not worth it.

The next one that did it his packet/parcel went straight back into my bag and back to delivery office.

I got told off for doing it. but it was so worth it :D

Lol at everyone siding with the courier. Unbelievable. :D

You had a go directly at the driver, without giving him any chance to explain, or indeed to know if it was his issue or problem in the first place.
Might have been a subbed in driver, might have been a broken van, might have needed a wheel change.
You didn't know, and you started out quite stroppy.

If you're that upset, never buy anything delivered by DPD again, that'll show 'em.

You are lucky to be honest, if I had a customer speak to me like that for no reason at all, as it could quite easily be nothing to do with the driver, I would have said nothing, walked away with your package and took it back to the depot. I hope you're proud of what a model human being you are :,)

The lesson wont be learnt by compensation claimer OP, which is good as it means all of our parcels get delivered that lil bit quicker.

Lets face it, the driver was probably late due to traffic.

Nothing worse than an arrogant and condescending snide comment when you're already tired, stressed and at the end of your tether!
No wonder the poor fella lost his kool and to top it off you then doubled-down and tried to get him sacked / in trouble with his employer
It appears you are happy to dish it but cry like a baby when someone retaliates and stands-up for themselves, I suggest if you can't handle snide comments then don't dish them out!!

What did I do then? Insult his mother and his family? No, I vented some mild frustration as I'm sure you have at some point in your life unless you're a complete angel. All he had to do is placate me with a simple apology. Why is saying sorry such a difficult concept these days?

Why should he have to placate childish ass-hats?

I think you're deliberately missing the point. I had no choice in the matter of which courier. My point is that in business, the employee does not talk back to the customer/end user.

Btw, I can't possibly reply to all the people here. So if I happen to reply to you, do feel honoured. :D
Likewise the customer shouldn't talk like you did to the business. Its a two way street. The business has as much right to be talked to in a respectful way as the customer does. Do you not see how you are as much as fault as they are?

I used to be a courier driver and can fully understand the response you got. It's a very stressful job and if he was running that far behind he'd already had a crap day. Some smart arse comment coming from you didn't help matters i'd say.

What is it with so called men these days? Have we we all turned into precious little fairies that get offended by absolutely everything and immediately go running off to try and get someone in the crap house?

This is probably a worker that gets paid a pittance per parcel delivered, has his own van, insurance, fuel and so on to pay. Get's absolutely no benefits from DPD (holidays/sick pay) and there you go trying to make his life even harder. Nice

Arrogant? If it's no wonder the guy lost his cool, why is it any wonder that I lost mine? Do you think I was at home chilling out playing call of duty like you or many others here probably do every day?

Like I've said earlier in this thread, the face you see representing a company is the face that takes the brunt of your frustration, whether it's his fault or not. Yes it's unfortunate for him, but not the end of the world and he should not have answered back. Have some standards.

You could find a ton of people in for instance the network forum who have complained to virgin media or some other company about something. Does this mean the person they speak to is responsible for the problem? No, but they are the person representing the company and who the customer vents at. Get real.

The driver is a human being, not a robot so a bit of empathy wouldn't hurt. Also, good touch with those complaints as Quality Control will waste time on them instead focusing on real issues and maybe actually improve their services.
