I think you're taking the customer is always right explanation from wiki or wherever too literally. It's much simpler than that. It doesn't mean the customer is actually right. It means that if you're running a business, and you want it to be and stay successful, then you don't argue with the customer, whether they're right or wrong, if you want to keep that customer coming back. Unless of course the customer is trying to sue you or something similar.

I have ran a very successful restaurant for the past 10 years with over 50 staff, our net sales are in access of £1,2m per year.

Allowing customers to talk to your staff like **** creates a larger problem in your team, as they believe they aren't backed up when they are doing their job correctly. I've lost count of the amount of times i've been an absolute ass with dick customers that deserve it.. I have never dropped below 20-30% sales growth vs SPLCY.

Also tell gordon ramsay not to be rude to asshat customers ;)

Then you're one of the lucky ones and can get away with it, since you're offering food that people want and can't get elsewhere to the standard or taste of how yours is cooked.

But for the majority of service industry, they can't talk to customers like that if they want to survive. Have a read of the first 2 or 3 paragraphs.

Oh, like I haven't also been working my arse off every day? You just couldn't be more wrong. I run a business and wouldn't dream of talking back to a customer. And all I did was make a single sarcastic comment because I had things to do and couldn't leave the house to do them.
And this is where the problem lays. You have to suck up to your customers, whereas this delivery driver has zero reason to suck up to you.
Be more respectful next time.
I'm so happy I don't have to have a job where I meet tools like you during my day otherwise I wouldn't last two minutes in them.

I only said "an hour and a half late" to him because I was frustrated. I didn't call him a tool though. That would have been quite offensive.

Oh by the way mate, just curious, but did you recently decide to quit the very successful restaurant business and go into computer studies instead?

:D Maybe when he says run he means manage and is looking for a change?

I note you've also gone through my posts to find ammo :D.

Edit: Didnt realise how much I had posted in this thread. I should get out more :D.

Probably because he felt threatened by your business knowledge (which was his favourite card to play) and went stalking your profile to find some evidence that you were lying about running a hugely successful restaurant, thought he'd struck gold with that thread, and linked it here thinking he had outed you as a liar, but thinly veiled it as a question so as to not seem a total bell. :p

the first thing he said was "I can take it back if you want" sarcastically.

You initiated the exchange of sarcasm when you said "only an hour and a half late then". He then said something sarcastic back, I would have laughed at it, said "thank you", and wished him a good evening. It's unbelievably petty to report him for some banter when you are fully aware he was being sarcastic.

To be honest that's how I feel. I expect I'd have just laughed about being one upped.

I had one driver delivering the 900D and I stupidly said "Damn that package is a lot bigger than I expected" he replied "Yeah you're misses told me that too". He looked shocked as if he hadn't meant to say that and I just wet myself laughing :D.

I have skimmed through most of the thread and most things have already been said.

I'd like to highlight to the OP that in so many of these cases the person you are actually dealing with face to face/over the phone has nothing to do with the problem so getting angry or being sarcy really doesn't do anything.

I had an order with Oakley earlier in the year, and due to the lack of models here in Japan, I decided to order them from the UK and get my Dad to ship them over for me.

After about a month of phoning them every week, they finally arrived. Did I get angry on the phone to them? No. What's the point? In the end the guy gave me back 30%. Doubt he would have done that if I was being a sarcastic arse down the phone.

Basically if you are angry and want to post something on the internet, wait until the next day. Guarantee in 90% of cases you won't end of posting it. OP is just stuck in defensive mode now and can't see a way out.

With roads the way they are these days I think you did well to get it that day. Driving is stressful enough without being set to strict delivery times.

Your comment was not needed and would have probably narked me also. Just sounds like you get a kick out of making people bow down and grovel at your feet.
