Russian airliner missing over Egypt

Putin: 'We'll throw some bombs around, pretend we're attacking ISIS, claim huge victories, and mock the West for their lack of progress. What could go wrong?'

*Russian airliner blows up*

Putin:

Don't post that meme please. We know what the last word means

Dubai is probably the last place I would visit if I wanted to be alive.

Its not bad for tourists, but it doesn't have a great deal of charm.

Once you look past the lavish luxury and hospitality that you dont get in the UK it doesn't have a massive amount to offer.

Religion doesn't pose a problem till you start trying to **** your other half on the beach really, they take offense at that.

Criticism isn't the same as mocking.

The whole Charlie Hebdo thing isn't mocking the dead, it's making a valid point of Russia's involvement in Syria and the subsequent fallout of it on it's own citizens.

Eh - is it? I can't really see anything in those images other than mocking.

Or endure the consequences. It's a terrible thing to say but the fact is most people doing the mocking (aka carrying out acts of provocation) are already aware of the potential response their actions might lead to.

Masking irresponsibility/being disrespectful with the likes of freedom of speech baffles me.

I enjoy satire as much as the next person, but there are boundaries.

I'm not sure I agree with mocking people's religion. It seems inflamatory for no reason whatsovever. But I do defend everyone's right to voice their opinion on a religion. So I thik it is absolutely fine to say "Islam is a load or rubbish" or "Christianity is a load of rubbish". But deliberately mocking something you know others to hold dear to them is rude and unnecessary.

I have not read the whole thread yet or googled but i need to ask this question, i have heard and read about the various information coming from the US that they detected a flash\heat coming from the plane or near to it, my question is, what kind of tech have the US got up in the sky that could detect something like that?

Surely that means the whole of the planets sky is monitored by it as it couldn't and wouldn't have been coincidentally pointing at the Russian plane at the same time as it came down could it? That would mean that this tech could pick up mostly anything at anytime in the sky.

Excuse my ignorance

I agree with Burnsy, there is no need to mock peoples beliefs.
I don't mock peoples music taste even if they like RHCP, Radiohead or Coldplay.
Yes I might challenge but I don't mock.

That image mocks peoples beliefs, so presumably you deem it unacceptable?

Doesn't it only register over a certain level/size?

IIRC it's meant to detect large missiles (ICBM's, heavy rockets etc), not generally AA rockets.

The Americans are quite coy about the capabilities of SBIRS. The original design remit was for detection of ICBM's and similar vehicles as you say, weapons that have a relatively long and hot burn time. Even with a scan rate of 7 seconds I doubt a typical short range air-to-air launch would be detected, the rocket motor doesn't burn for long enough. Medium and long range AA launches would be a different story, they fly ballistic profiles and they burn for much longer to get the altitude they need.
