Russian airliner missing over Egypt

We've got plenty of space before they go over land though, so can afford to escort them out whilst they're still over the sea if need be, or give them some time before taking further action.
Remember we routinely send up armed aircraft to do just that when the Russians start playing around on our air borders.

Turkey has had armed Russian aircraft crossing it's land borders on a regular basis for a while, and has consistently warned the aircraft before, during and then issued official protests afterwards.
After they shot down a Drone the other week you'd have assumed the Russians would have taken that as a serious warning, and started to be much more careful of where they were flying and listening to ATC and Guard frequencies for warnings.

I suspect if an armed Russian aircraft got over UK land without permission, especially after repeated warnings, and prior protests over similar situations going back months, the RAF may not waste much time in opening fire.

Yeah I don't think they'd waste time either, don't know what weapons there carrying.

Slightly off subject that sighting of a russian submarine yesterday in our waters, and the constant buzzing of our airspace shows how close we come on a routine basis to conflict.

Turkey have had enough and are proving a point suprised it took this long if I'm honest.

Assuming the Russian jet was actually in Turkish air space and had been repeatedly warned, the Turks were quite right to shoot it down.

That may sound a bit harsh, but that is how things work. The Russians are well known for provocations to test the barriers of what they can do, and to test what NATO nation's responses would be.

It is the primary reason Russian jets fly close to UK airspace, but NEVER within it. They know that we would be forced to shoot them down, creating a proper full blown international issue.

This has the potential to blow into a huge issue. NATO has not actually downed a Russian jet since the 1950s...!

and if it didnt flew inside turkey? Does this justify Russia to retaliate?

Quite right.

Turkey have been looking to 'take one out' for a few weeks now. I'd be suprised if they took it down without 100% following of their rule book, whatever that maybe. I just hope the pilots aren't captured by 'rebels' athough its reported ethnic turks are in that area so we'll wait and see.

Reports are saying the pilot has been captured by US backed Syrian rebels.

Yes, it does, however, hopefully a diplomatic solution would be found which saves face on both sides. Else in a week you have the start of Cold War 2 as it Russia attached Turkey, NATO retaliates....

Why should NATO retaliate when Turks are irresponsible? if a member state has suicidial tendecies does this mean we all should die because of them?

From Twitter, the radar plot Turkey have put up and the cruising speed of an su24 it appears the Russian jet was inside Turkish airspace for less than 15 seconds without needing to alter course to exit again. Not worth killing 2 men over, endangering anyone on the ground below the plane and potentially causing some pretty massive international issues IMO.

Both Putin and the Turkish president/wanna be dictator want to be seen as strong so it's no wonder this has happened. Expect Russia to step up their "anti-terrorism" bombing against Turkmen villages inside Syria.

Video of people apparently shooting at the pilots as they parachute down from bailing out.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPmmtrMJyHs

No gore or swearing or anything, just people parachuting and guys firing guns, don't think it violates any rules but please remove if so.

NOTE - I think video is fake, I am not claiming it's real/legitimate.
