Russian airliner missing over Egypt

Indeed because the Russians never lie about this kind of stuff :D

Abit of a lurker :D so here is my 2 pence worth. They did have reserved thoughts on what happened to the downed airliner, while other countries immediately said it was a terrorist attack. They held back until they had concrete proof.

But if its in turkish airspace they can do what they like. The fact there bombing the people turkey support obviously has nothing to do with it ;)

Every Government and nation involved has been caught feeding lies in recent times. At this point, nobody here is in any position to say Russia or Turkey is lying, or who is lying more than other more like :D People should wait until full reports and details are issued before coming to any conclusion, and that is the same for the biased press/journalists scum.

Some random OcUK poster sitting at his computer, at this point in time, is in absolutely no position to claim "Turkey was within their rights" like they actually know what they are talking about and people should listen to them. It's ridiculous.

The Russians, according to reports, are claiming they were within Syria's airspace and not in Turkish airspace.

So maybe you guys claiming that Turkey was "within its rights" should actually wait before making your completely non-based matter of fact statements?

I'm going to hazard a guess and say that given the area it's quite likely that it's very heavily monitored not just by Turkey but Nato and neighbouring countries.

Russia has certainly been infringing on Turkish airspace a lot recently, so I'm leaning towards it being Turkish airspace given that and how Russia has been playing fast and loose with borders in the last few years.

Quite right.

Turkey have been looking to 'take one out' for a few weeks now. I'd be suprised if they took it down without 100% following of their rule book, whatever that maybe. I just hope the pilots aren't captured by 'rebels' athough its reported ethnic turks are in that area so we'll wait and see.

Do you sit on the fence this oftern?

Posters opinions are based on the information available at the time, given what has been going on in the past with the border and Russias actions its not hard to draw the conclusion that the violation of airspace was real.

Given what has been presented thus far and what has gone on in the past then YES Turkey are within its rights to shoot the plane down*

* This information is based on what has been presented to date
* This opinion may change
* Opinion will only change if further information is presented by a recognised source
* My opinion my change when a report is released in 1 years time
* Upon the release of the report hardly anyone will care
* OCUK would be boring if we all waited
* No everyone wants to sit on the fence

BREAKING: A video sent by a Syrian rebel group to news agency Reuters claims to show a Russian pilot immobile on the ground. An official from the group says the pilot is dead.

Just saw the video, too.

If that map accuare then i'd be suprised the pilots had enough time to give them '10 warnings'. Unless there flying a car and not a fast jet. :D

You don't just warn when they've entered. Countries always warn well before the border, so a very mute point.
Same as what we do with Russia, we don't just warn and follow when they probe are airspace/waters.

Wonder if dead on ground or murdered. They might gain some respect from russia if they give the body back. Might show they're human and not animals that people think.

Landed already dead, landed and then suicide as he was approached (I would not want to fall into the hands of ISIS either) or was killed trying to defend himself.

If he had been captured alive by ISIS (don't know what other groups may do) I surmise they would want every chance to use him and then execute him later in the most grizzly public manner.

Yeah we just stalk them in international airspace around us :D

But i get your point there, they must have had itch trigger fingers so as soon as they crossed they shot at them.

Yeah you're right don't know if they carry any suicide medication but you'd rather shoot yourself than be dragged by a pickup along a dirt track. Apparently word at the moment is that there is no ISIS rebels there but groups are always linked for a common cause aren't they.

We've got plenty of space before they go over land though, so can afford to escort them out whilst they're still over the sea if need be, or give them some time before taking further action.
Remember we routinely send up armed aircraft to do just that when the Russians start playing around on our air borders.

Turkey has had armed Russian aircraft crossing it's land borders on a regular basis for a while, and has consistently warned the aircraft before, during and then issued official protests afterwards.
After they shot down a Drone the other week you'd have assumed the Russians would have taken that as a serious warning, and started to be much more careful of where they were flying and listening to ATC and Guard frequencies for warnings.

I suspect if an armed Russian aircraft got over UK land without permission especially after repeated warnings and prior protests over similar situations going back months the RAF may not waste much time in opening fire.

Which is pretty normal. You warn them, they've been warning them for weeks, they've even shot a drone down, you then warn them on approach, you then shoot. It's not a mystery what's happened. It's just how it unfolds. Russia always thinks they can be a bully, turkey doesn't stand for it.

I doubt much will happen at all, to many countries interested in that area,
