Russian Grand Prix 2015, Sochi - Race 15/19

(when Rosberg's finished crying in a corner obviously).

I'd be crying in a corner if I was Rosberg and you would be too.

Two years of having a super fast car, thinking you have all to play for after a pretty even 2013, and just being completely outshone must be a terrible feeling and I don't blame at all for being emotional.

Again I find it hard to have much sympathy with someone who's earning a fortune and living in the lap of luxury and whose day job is to race in F1. If not being good enough to win the world championship is enough to bring him to tears then he needs to get a bit of perspective on his life.

It depends how you define perspective... One could argue that is his perspective on life. His father was a WDC himself, Rosberg was likely pushed into F1 at a very young age and as a teen wanted to emulate his father, being so close, but ultimately so far from that must be heartbreaking... So I don't blame him at all. If he was raised in a pretty average life, I'd imagine he wouldn't be so upset, but he also wouldn't be racing in Formula One.

There have been many emotional moments in Formula One, such as Massa's podium in Brazil 2008 - He didn't need to change his perspective on life at all.

Rosberg is only at Mercedes because he's German. Discuss.

Rosberg will be there for 2016 at least but in all honesty I'd be looking to let him leave after that, get Lewis on another three year deal and then either try and poach Bottas from under Ferrari's nose or give Hulkenberg a chance in a top car on a 1+1 deal.

Currently? I'd say no. I'd say he is currently there because he is a solid driver which is what they need to wrap up the WCC.

To begin with? Probably so. I'd imagine Mercedes wanted the "Entire German" thing going on, and it was out of Rosberg, Sutil and Glock from the 2009 line up and Rosberg was a decent enough choice.

Rosberg was superb in 2009 so it was hardly a surprise that they wanted him at Mercedes, irrespective of his nationality.

He's been very good since too, but when they started getting near the front Hamilton has definitely had the edge and it's been eating away at Rosberg ever since. He's looked better of late though, especially as Hamilton has had him on a bit of string all year.

It was a good race in a BTCC sort of way, but some good racing in their too. Quite bland in the middle though.

Rosberg would have had two championships if his teammate was not Hamilton.

I wouldn't say it was as clean cut as that. IMO Alonso, Button and Vettel are better and it's a close run thing between him and Bottas, Hulkenberg and Kimi. Not saying anyone would have the beating of Lewis the way he's been driving though.

I've honestly got no clue who Rosberg would beat. He's struggled in that car to pass a lot of people that Hamilton hasn't. a TR last year at Hungary, he's made a meal of getting past a lot of people. As with you I think there are some drivers who would also easily beat Rosberg, I just don't know how far down the list of drivers you would need to get for someone Rosberg could beat.

WHile at Williams his most redeeming feature was qualifying, but his race craft is just poor, he struggles to overtake, he struggles with consistent race pace, saving his tires, fuel conservation, braking. Last years immense number of problems for Hamilton's car made Rosberg look competitive, in reality if Vettel/Button/Alonso had been in the other car while Hamilton had that amount of bad luck they'd have easily won the title last year even though I think they'd all be beaten handily by Hamilton this year.

Button better than Rosberg, not even close.

Some other people struggle with overtaking terrible cars too... Look at Alonso in Abu Dhabi 2010 :p

Edit: Never mind the Renault in 2010 wasn't as bad as I remember it being.

Do I really need to trot out the old 'Button Scored more than Hamilton over four seasons in the same car' thing again? Surely that's been done to death? Give Button a good car and he's brilliant. He still would be in a good car.

And yet when a top seat comes up, no team tries to sign him. ;)

Rosberg is a safe pair of hands as a number 2 driver. Fast enough to push Hamilton and get the team points for the constructors championship, but not fast enough to cause big upsets and ructions inside the team.

After last year when he tried to play the hard man spiking Hamilton's tyre, he got slapped down. Same when he tried to be clever and parked his car during Monaco qualifying. He's tried all these tricks to make up for the fact he just isn't fast enough, and they've just made things worse. Even today, he brake tested Hamilton when the first yellow flag came up and when the safety car came in, probably in return for Hamilton pushing him off the corner in the last race.

In the end, you can only play those games if you are a winner, and Rosberg can only manage second best. His only chance might be to move teams, but then he'd be a bigger fish in a smaller pond. If he stays and Mercedes keeps making top class machinery, he'll still be up against the faster Hamilton, and won't get anywhere but second.
