Russian Grand Prix 2015, Sochi - Race 15/19

Thing is if Bottas saw him didn't cut to the apex went wide and Kimi got ahead everyone would hail a brilliant overtake. He left the gap open didn't check where Kimi was and cut to the apex expecting no one to be there. Every time a driver expects no one to be there we see an accident. I mean how long ago was it Hulk left a gap then cut across the inside and was punished. Driver assuming no one is coming up the inside is bad driving for me. It may have been Kimi's fault but that doesn't mean Bottas couldn't have avoided it easily.

What gap?

Love the Montoya sound bite in this one :D

NSFW language in video

Raikkonen was going for a gap that was never there.

In an effort to continue to be correct, drunkenmaster is no longer questioning Kimi's misjudgement, he's now saying that Bottas is at fault for not avoiding it by going off the track and giving up his position on the last lap with just a few corners to go.

I think Skeeter's called it right here...

Sigh

Just leave it guys. drunkenmaster will consider himself correct and everyone else wrong on literally anything. If we all said the sky was blue he would write an essay on how its green.
I'm just starting to see the light...

I didn't see the race live, but kept the radio off as I drove 100 miles back home then watched the full unedited 3 and a quarter hours on iplayer and finished it at about 4.30am.

Great race, particularly for all the spectacular crashes.

Can't believe Sainz crashed again, how embarrassing for him.

It was slightly awkward watching Putin, he looked out of place and uncomfortable and let's face it, he's a ****.

Kimi, I really can't stand the bloke. Miserable at every single interview and clearly not owning up to that incident. Time to drop him. Also, of all the drivers it could have been, it happened to be the two Fins that came together in that crash.

Feel sorry for Rosberg. He's got his faults like many drivers, but I can understand his frustration. These drivers train extremely hard and naturally want to be number one.

Nevertheless, delighted for Lewis!

Isn't that an old audio recording of Montoya played over the top when they had an incident together years ago?

Edit - ah yes, original poster even said so :p

I don't think that video is appropriate. The swearing rule has been relaxed, not abolished :p

Another one for 100% Kimi's fault, he locked up and skidded into Bottas going for a gap that just wasn't there. He wasn't even close to being along side when they were turning into the corner, so it was Bottas' position all the way.

I've not heard anything, but it looked like a brake failure to me, was that not the case?

Yeah, he spun earlier on the lap with from of his front brakes on fire and having let go, tried to continue around and it looked like it just seized completely and spun him off again. Same bit of barrier as FP3 too!

Oh yeah :p. Doh! :D

Still funny :).

Yeah, I assume the team hadn't told him yet and he didnt realise how bad it was. He must have had horrible thoughts flash through his mind as he started heading towards that same barrier!

Fan's video puts an interesting perspective on the crash. Even with suspension intact it is doubtful that Kimi would have kept it on the track, such was his entry speed.

Yes, that's very clear. I wonder if Kimi had a brake failure? If Bottas had not been there, he'd have been in the barrier.

I've no doubt he would have stopped and turned before the barrier, but that would have likely been on the run off area rather than on the track.

I can see why Kimi tried it (given the do or die radio message), but it would have required complete compliance from Bottas and for Bottas to know it was coming. I was a little surprised Bottas didn't look in his mirrors given some of the moves Riakkonen had already tried, but Kimi was even further back than those ones.

It's 100% Kimi's fault, but I'm slightly surprised Bottas didn't see him building towards it.

It's a shame the constructors was decided this way, but the penalty was correct.

Good to see Kimi getting racey again though. He's been a little soft since he came back - not that that's necessarily a bad thing in a sport where you generally can't make contact.

I don't know why people are arguing over the kimi mistake.
The Hulk got a penalty for the same kind of thing at Singapore.

But well done to Merc for winning the WCC. Not the way they wanted but they'll take it :)
The next race will be very interesting.

Nooooo, not at all. The Hulk incident was nothing like that because Massa wasn't two clicks behind him when he came out of the pits, he was almost beside him, if not in front of him at one point...

Edit: some mspaint skills of screen grabs taken from the point at which the driver in front attacked the corner (turn in)...

I need to record the BBC F1 when it's on more often... cool features that they do like Jenson's rally cross etc.

Recorded the Sky coverage and these days I end up whizzing it on when Herbert, Hill and Lazers are standing their talking.

I forgot to record it on Sky F1 but the Button rally cross segment with DC was really good. I rarely watch the build up but that was excellent.
