I can't see how Aitken was at fault for that. Matsushita outbroke himself in to T1 and went straight forcing Aitken to abandon the corner and to also go across the run off. Both of them tried to fit through the mandated rejoin point and made contact. Mazepin was the innocent party in it all.

They are all yet more victims of the counter-productive tarmac run offs, which result in no penalty for mistakes and also put other drivers at risk when rejoins are made at full speed.

Oh, maybe they didn’t follow through then? I thought they were going to make it more abrasive to increase wear.

Although interestingly the F1 website says that it’s so slippery it increases wear...

So what is Mercedes plan then? To push ferrari into making an earlier stop and be on the hards for longer, catch then up on fresher hards and hope to pass them like spa?

All tracks should have that diamond ground surface they use at Indy, that's a good tyre destroyer. Would certainly make the races interesting.

Any chance of using Bottas (if on mediums) to Trulli train those that stop early on softs and don't have the subsequent speed to pass him when on the hards? I still reckon those on mediums will lose places at the start to those on softs. Would be amazed if anything other that Ferrari 1-2 going in to first corner.

I think you're right there... the tow down to T1 is going to be epic, so I think Ham is going to be lucky to keep P2 on the harder tyre.

Mercedes need track position, but hard to imagine anything other than a Ferrari 1-2 after the first few corners and that’ll be the race decided.

Surely Mercedes have a plan, it’s a bizzare strategy.
