Russian SU-24 - Shot Down by Turkey

Took their sweet ass time to set up that TOW so it must have been there for a while.

I'm amazed they managed to set it up and fire it, can't be the easiest thing to do, although I'm guessing they must have some people that the US trained, whoever had the weapon, with them.

Turkey is a weird nation. It wants the security that comes with being a NATO member, the economic benefits of being in the EU, yet its loyalties appear to largely lie in the middle east. They aren't really friends at all. They are as much our enemy as Russia are, though with the Rus we at least share more cultural similarities and a shared ancestry.

Turkey is funding ISIS actively and what's more it goes right up to official level. Journalists have found this out. ISIS sell vast quantities of oil or trade oil for weapons.

Journalists have found this out and been killed by Turkish or somewhat likely American agents because they are uncovering the truth about how ISIS are being paid. It's a combination of direct and indirect funds from Turkey and of course the same from the US government

Poor Americans catch the blame for everything! So American agents are out there knocking off Turkish journalists? Careful, now you've implicated them you could be next!

Something does not add up here?

Say the jet was going slow at 500mph, that part of Turkey is about 2 miles wide.

How can you issue 10 warnings in 15 seconds! At that speed you would cover
2 miles in about 15 seconds.

Hope this is not the most expensive 15 seconds in history. :(

they'd warn before the jet entered as it is heading towards them...

tis the shooting down when it is over Syrian airspace that is the bigger issue IMO

They'd have been trained alright as most of those 'moderate' rebel/terrorist (delete whatever way you want) were given weapons by the west to fight Assad and his tanks.
Bet they never thought it was going to be used on Russian helis.

So that wasn't sarcasm?
Just because a video of something propotedly depicting something is on YouTube doesn't mean it happened. The media have barely reported it at all till now without verification (I still can't see any mention of it on the BBC), otherwise you might get another SU27 deploying flares type incident.

Well, the various rebel groups, IS included, recycle the same footage over and over, claiming fresh victories/atrocities. This could be of an Mi-17 getting hit in a separate incident, possibly a long time ago and nothing to do with the present situation. Therefore it's worth taking clips posted to YouTube with a pinch of salt.

It would go something like:

You are approaching Turkish airspace, identify yourself

You are approaching Turkish airspace, what are your intentions

You are rapidly approaching airspace and not responding, turn around now

If you enter Turkish airspace, you will be shot down. Please turn back now

I repeat - If you enter Turkish airspace, you will be shot down. Please turn back now

I repeat - If you enter Turkish airspace, you will be shot down. Please turn back now

I repeat - If you enter Turkish airspace, you will be shot down. Please turn back now

You are within 1 mile of Turkish airspace and not responding.

You are inside Turkish airspace. I repeat, turn around NOW or you WILL be shot down.
You are inside Turkish airspace. I repeat, turn around NOW or you WILL be shot down.
You are inside Turkish airspace. I repeat, turn around NOW or you WILL be shot down.

MISSILE AWAY

It shows exactly what it says it is, a helicopter being blown up.

He is referring to the BBC using the wrong picture and saying it was the fighter bomber being shot down.

Oh I know, but that doesn't discredit everything.

Sky have reported the video, as have Channel 4. The Youtube channel in question is very active, very regular videos, all from the same area, so it's probable the video was recorded today. It does show a helicopter, which appears to be an Mi-17, which may be Russian, being destroyed by some rebels using a TOW.
