Russian SU-24 - Shot Down by Turkey

It's a huge over reaction and strange show of force which is why so much question is raging on the motives and attitue of Turkeys government concerning Russia's attempt at "war on teror". Putin has made his thoughts clear on exactly why Turkey shot down the plane, he thinks they are accomplace to IS.

When Greece starts constantly blowing Turkish fighters out of the sky from now on for crossing into airspace with no clearance, we will just chalk that up as Turkey being completely at fault..... Except Greece doesn't and hasn't done that, because they have no motive and aren't dumb.

A plane crossing your airspace and exiting in less than 20 seconds is by no means a reaon to blow it out of the sky and it absolutely is a massive overreaction and did not need to happen. It's not as if turkey were cuaght by surprise at some random out of the blue Russian aircraft, they know perfectly well Russia are operating a big mission for months right on that area of airspace and is probably why they have F16's in the air prior anyway. It comes across as them needing their excuse to do something, they briefly got it and took it....

Quite sad that so many are siding with Russia. Who have been entering air space for weeks, have had so many warnings both in the air and through diplomatic means. And turkey even shot down a Russian drone to show their strength and meaning.

Russia fault end off. As long as they were in turkeys airspace.

There is a war going on inches over their freaking border, a war Turkey is pretty directly involved in by supporting/buying oil off Isis. Seriously, get a grip, it's going to be very hard to hit targets on the edge of the border within some encroaching over the line, that is life. Turkey could actually man their borders and keep Isis and anyone supporting Isis away.

The simple fact is that if the US kept going into Russian airspace randomly for no reason during no on going campaign that is one thing and Russia may shoot them down. If there was a war going on with Russia and the US working on the same freaking side on the Russian border both hitting targets on the border they actually wouldn't shoot down US planes for going over by a mile for a few seconds.

This isn't Russia just trying to **** off Turkey, this is running missions within inches of the Turkish border, there is absolutely no reason to believe those planes would suddenly attack Turkey or head for the capital, they know exactly why the Russian planes are there and what they are doing. They know there is exactly no threat to Turkey at all yet still shot a plane down.

Turkey are pretty much supporting Isis, they are as Pakistan were to the Taliban. If we were flying missions over Afghanistan on the border went over Pakitstan for 20 seconds and had a plan shot down all hell would break loose. The situation is the same here except we don't like supporting Russia nor going against the EU, regardless of it being the same freaking situation.

Rofl,it absolutely is Russia flexing their muscles. There isn't IS in the area, so that line from Putin is rubbish.
Just goes to show being the bully still works in the modern era. Doesn't matter how close the borders are you don't cross them. This isn't 1700s withno gps.

Russia have been bullies and flexing their muscles for years. Someone's finally had enough and slapped them back.

Same as when Russia probes us, you don't wait for incursion. You scramble and warn well before potential breach. Perhaps Russia will now think twice before showing there perceived might.

It does seem Turkey had exhausted all avenues for repeated breach of airspace before doing this but it's a risky move potentially awakening the bear. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

It's already been dismissed in several threads. They're booing the attackers. The Turkish coach even commented on it.

hmmm they announce and request a 1 minutes silence, the coach and Turkish players remain silent yet some sections of Turkish supporters chose to make a racket... after having been told what is going on

oh but 'muh culture' is a dubious excuse at best

What didn't they try?
Warnings in the air.
Diplomatic warnings after repeated incursion.
Destroyed unmanned drone
More warnings and clearly state they will fire.

Please tell what avenue they missed.

you're asking him what they've missed when he's already stated his opinion on that in the post you're quoting....

must do minute silences differently in turkey.

Agreed with other users in thread, like USA turkey havent done much to counter isis, turkey have just sat by on the border and contributed nothing to fighting isis except bear minimum.

Felt like usa and allies were trying to beat isis until russia got involved but just shows how little they were doing when russia started getting involved.

Can't believe people are sidding with Turkey on this. Killing someone just because they fly over your land for few seconds it's just stupid. I guess those of you who agree with this action would shoot people walking over your front garden without hesitation.

I can see why they're upset about Russians entering their airspace but you just don't kill some poor guy doing his job because you don't like it.
