like say a Russian plane overflies the channel islands and we shoot it down after the event... I don't think there is much justification for shooting someone in the back after they've done something

I think Turkey is on thin ice here - sure it appears from their claims the Russian jet did cross a tiny slice of their territory... but they've then shot it down over Syrian territory while it is flying away

Turkey is trying to start ww3 on this, how the hell are they still in Nato after bombing the kurds who are fighting ISIS?
 
Will certainly be interesting to see what Putin does now because they've been flexing their muscles and testing other countries borders for a few years to prove they're still a military super power and not scared of anyone and that's just been undone with one giant bitch slap to the face from Turkey.

Turkey, imho needs to be careful on this one and they arent being, given the first call that they made was to NATO, not a good sign that the turkish PM has come out shouting and backing the shooting down.

I would have thought it a simple idea that all allied forces in the area have some sort of agreement about minor infractions of airspace, looks like the plane was in Turkish airspace for 6/10 seconds depending on its airspeed, thats a not a lot of time to warn them 10 times and launch a missile....

Also now hearing that the chopper that was sent to retrieve the pilots has had to make a forced landing as well...

Turkey is going to get a slap for this one and drag NATO into a stand off with the russians...

They ARE still a military super power, remember the Urals are stuffed with 6500 active nuclear warheads and god know how many they have on mobile launch silos. One must be mad to play cat and mouse with the russkies
