Ryzen "2" ?

From a chip that boosts to 4.35Ghz on a single core, I would have expected it to be handle all core 4.3Ghz with more volts and better cooling.

My expectations are not so high. Current gen boasts 4.1 XFR, but the average overclock looks more like 3.9.

That said, current 1600X is 3.67 all-cores. If that turns into 4.2 out of the box, then that's 500mhz above stock speeds, which is respectable for the tiny tweak that this is :)

I don't see a point from upgrading from the previous generation.

Better upgrade the GPU if you want better performance.

Yes.... But we are geeks... We love this stuff lol.

In all seriousness, if this iteration stops the cold boot memory training issues (randomly going back to a lower memory frequency), I would happily buy the 2nd version.

Even if we only see 10% or so in this release its still pretty good, as been said Intel has not been providing that kind of improvement on many of its "releases"

That's because they haven't needed to, They got complacent with the lack of competition, Ryzen's still playing catch up in categories like gaming.

Now having just watched an AMD livestream (or maybe a recording of one) they're saying how it's great that they've given us backwards compatibility and it would be if they was offering us a reason to upgrade from Zen to Zen+,

Are we meant to upgrade just for the sake of it?
Fortunately I went with a 6 core Ryzen to save money because I planned to move to an 8 core with Ryzen+, But for gamers on an 8 core already it looks like there's nothing much on offer?

I agree. If you already have an 8 core, upgrading really isn't worth it.

Zen 2 and Zen 3 are much more compelling upgrades, if AMD live up to their promises.

I wouldnt bother upgrading from say a 1700 or 1800 to a 2700, no point. Hell i wont be upgrading my 5820k either as things aint moved on enough this year...
Might though next year with the next gen, say a nice 15-20% improvement over the 2700 and that would do - a move to 10/12 core AM4 chips as well would do it (not sure if that would work)

That said lots of folk still have quads, how many bought into the nonsense that was being passed around about the 7700k last year and how it was better than ryzens much more powerful silicon... well i presume a lot of folk who coughed up for an intel spanking there could do worse than get a 2700 platform.

Problem is if you only use a PC for gaming, your upgrade is actually a downgrade. Just give us an 8 core that does 4.5 already etc
