Ryzen "2" ?

The Chinese coming to our rescue :). Makes you wonder how the Chinese are able to put themselves into a market and produce memory quicker, than these already well establish memory giants are able to increase supply.

China has huge almost limitless wealth and they love to subsidies their own people, i think they have the most emerging millionaires / billionaires in the world currently? They also provide services around the world in return for access to natural resources they dont have themselves.

Now dont for one minute think Chinese fabs are going to be the best thing since sliced bread however, China has some of the worst health and safety issues in the world lol. They may make aload of Fabs and churn out a ton of memory chips, but they will probably lose tens of thousands of their populace doing so :(

Id go as far to say China are probably the most powerful country on the planet now, why do you think everyone wants to be their friend, and Trump hasnt blown up NK yet? China.... ;)

For sure they are the World’s biggest financial power and I agree they have the capacity to produce more of almost anything but also the quality is usually quite poor in comparison.
Makes you wonder who will be buying it, I’d imagine the demand for the higher quality stuff like the Samsung B die will still be made and sold by the same company. So how will that change the current situation?

Completely agree. We'd do well learning from them. Instead we're still sometimes fed the rubbish about it being a communist country and communism doesn't succeed. They're more capitalist than the UK.

So it seems that Ram prices are being artificially inflated and won't get better for a while.

According to market research firm DRAMeXchange, a division of TrendForce, the three major DRAM suppliers – Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron – are slowing down their capacity expansions and technology migrations to maintain prices in 2018 at the same levels in the second half of this year. “Doing so will also help them to sustain a strong profit margin,” said DRAMeXchange.

Although new fabs are underway to relief strained supply, they won’t be ready for mass production until 2019 at the earliest, Wu said. “Constructing a 12-inch wafer fab will take at least a year. And additional time has to be set aside for equipment installation and trial production runs.

In addition, she said the wafer start volumes for the top three suppliers will expand by only five to seven percent in 2018, primarily due to reallocation of existing capacities and upgraded manufacturing processes.

For sure, some of the products will be inferior, very inferior.

Which begs the question who is going to buy them and how is that going to affect the prices of Ram?

Apparently the Japanese-US led consortium that have recently brought Toshiba's division will have more of an effect the market.

The acquisition of Toshiba’s memory business, Toshiba Memory Corp. (TMC) by a Japanese-U.S. consortium led by U.S. private equity firm Bain Capital for $18 billion is expected to have an impact on the NAND flash market in the first half of 2018. The deal, if it is approved, also will make TMC a rival to Samsung in NAND flash tech and production capacity thanks to significant capital investment by the consortium.

The consortium consists of government-backed investors, major private investment firms and technology companies including – interestingly, SK Hynix and Apple.

It's rather difficult to get that level of capitalism without also getting that level of terrible working conditions and living standards. Also the complete lack of democracy is rather off putting, no?

Regardless I don't see Chinese DRAM and NAND as the saviour of the PC market. Even if it is cheap it might also be crap. I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised but not holding my breath.

Long term maybe but not the short term they'll likely target the cheaper end of the market where performance won't matter so much, unless they have a stake in the Toshiba take over.

Democracy is why we have Brexit :p.
Democracy is why the USA has Trump :D
What China has, works well.......but of course it has it's downsides too. The human race has not and probably will not create something that works for all, unfortunately. Greed is a part of human nature......
There are downsides to "Democracy" too. Even Churchill was aware of that - "The biggest argument against democracy is a 5 minute conversation with the average person on the street"....or something along those lines was spoken.

That’s rich coming from a politician. The sum total of democracy for the average person is a vote every 4 years, the rest is down to politicians and those that pay them.

Anyway don’t want to get political in here it’s a dirty subject.

You can move the i7-2600K to a secondary system. If overclocked, its 8-thread resources should be enough for many applications.

Yup. It's very likely to take over the reigns in my server/NAS box (Tonido personal cloud, discord server for friends, game servers, media server, backups and plex so far :D ). It'll still be a rest after it's life to date :)

When RAM comes back down to a normal price, that's when I'm going to upgrade to whatever Ryzen is out at the time.

The naming will be abit odd then, Zen+ is 2xxx, meaning Zen 2 is 3xxx, Zen 2+ will be 4xxx.

Either way, I hope some nice improvements come along. Waiting for one side to put out a 5ghz 8c16t... mmmmmmmmm :)

I see naming will be the opposite of Intel's. Where 8700K mainstream part of "newer" architecture, and the above series are with the older architecture.
With AMD you will have high-end desktop parts with the newer architecture, and mainstream APUs with older architecture.

I would be careful of overhyping the video as it will raise people's expections like the "beast mode" RX480 cards, and if it does not transpire people then start moaning at AMD for not delivering on the rumour. I actually like the conservative marketing AMD made with Ryzen,ie,they delivered a bigger boost in IPC then they actually advertised before the launch!!

If the leak is true OFC,then fantastic!! :p

I seriously doubt that's real, it's not difficult to change the CPU name & specifics with regedit, and it's also on W8, which makes it easy to spoof benchmark scores if you turn HPET off.

Though it would be quite nice for us if it was real.
