Ryzen "2" ?

Anyone on a CH6 considering switching?
Might be tempted to get a 2700x at some point. Currently got a 1600 that’s poor and only hits 3.7, so the upgrade to a faster chip with 2 more cores seems a decent upgrade but will wait a month or so to see how everyone else gets on.

Not at the moment no. The CH7 has nothing more to offer other than another M2 slot and the cpu boost. As i all core overclock and don't need another M2 slot, it would be a pointless move. I will get a 2700x though, after all the cpu upgrades is what first attracted me towards Ryzen in the first place.

Sorry I meant switching to the 2 series with a CH6. Wondering whether all the bells and whistles are worth it on the X370 platform further down the line.

Is proper Ryzen 2 going to be compatible with the X470 boards with a BIOS update? I'm thinking of holding out for the next iteration, but if it's going to be a case of dropping in A CPU then it's worth investing in the hardware now.

Plus better support for fast speed 2*8gb or 2*16gb so has been posted.

Yea, Ryzen 3. Will it utilise the same socket, or is that an unknown right now?

I think I'm just looking for excuses to buy here. :p

Ryzen 3 will be on the same AM4 socket, probably with X570/B550 chipsets.

BTW, has anyone noticed that right now AMD has a process lead over Intel - Pinnacle Ridge is the first processor on the new 12nm process technology?

Yes, as i'm fully aware because i posted a response to it. In my case though, i'm running 4x8GB of very fast ram already at 3333. The CH6 is the better platform for my ram at the moment. That may change in 6 months or so, but i'll worry about that then, certainly not going to worry about it now.

It is what I am asking - if you are interested, please look at the Intel 10nm process characteristics and GloFo's 7nm process characteristics - https://www.semiwiki.com/forum/content/7191-iedm-2017-intel-versus-globalfoundries-leading-edge.html
The GloFo transistor at 7nm looks like the smaller one.

Wonder if the 12nm GF is smaller than Intel 14nm+++?!

I found this one quite interesting as well: https://www.semiwiki.com/forum/content/7088-globalfoundries-rf-leadership.html

GF has the broadest portfolio of RF silicon solutions in the industry. With leading edge CMOS, RF CMOS, SiGe, RF SOI and FDSOI process technologies all available at multiple nodes GF can provide complete RF solutions.

RF is useful for the usual SoC functions, like 10G Ethernet, PCIe 4/5, etc, but also will have a big impact to your IMC for CPU's and GPU's PHY for HBM and DDR5x/6.

As for process lead, it sounds like GF 7nm vs. Intel 10nm will be the first real competition in a very long time. Intel currently destroys GF 12nm in terms of performance. Look at Table 1 in this link https://www.semiwiki.com/forum/content/6713-14nm-16nm-10nm-7nm-what-we-know-now.html . Intel's 16nm node beats the equivalent TSMC leakage by 5x..... That is so huge!

Totally irrelevant to this thread but I just watched the clip of Martin Brundel (ex F1 driver) interview Lisa Su at the the China F1 race.

Brundel "Hello do you speak English"

Priceless - but to be fair how was he to know who Lisa Su is.

:D

This is ridiculous - if he didn't know who he was approaching, why did he approach them in the first place? :(
