Ryzen "2" ?

Am i an idiot to upgrade to a 2700x now? are we expecting Ryzen3 or an 2800x soon? :/
Ryzen 3 is at least half a year away, probably closer to 9 months. Whether we see a 2800X I don't know; AMD might release it as an instant reaction to Intel's 9000 series but given the leaked price information I don't see why they'd bother. They also don't exactly have much clock headroom available so even from a technological standpoint I'm not sure if a 2800X is even viable.

I can certainly can see a 2800x coming out on the back of the 9900k

How would that work though? What sort of core count would you think? Seems a little wasteful to disable 1/3 of a CCX just to get a 10 or 12 core CPU, and you're potentially cannibalising Threadripper sales if you push to 16 cores. 10+ cores in a Ryzen package might get a little warm too.

I would assume 8c/16t higher clocks than 2700x

An option, but is there enough juice left in Zen+ to get higher clocks? And despite the wide range of comments from both fans and detractors about performance and IPC, Zen+ isn't going to clock anywhere near a Sandy Bridge++++++ core.

There was that leaked benchmark screenshot of a 10-core 2800X though...

So Jayz 2 cents thinks they have just slid the naming up a notch. i.e. the 2080 is actually the 2070.
I suggested this weeks ago and oh my god the ABUSE I received from people for even suggesting such a thing. @Paladine @Gregster
Apparently I am thick and don't know anything eh?
What the Dickens? I never said anything on the subject and you made yourself look thick many ways but that wasn't one that I said.

Edit. What the Dickens am I doing in the Ryzen 2 thread lol.

I would definitely wait. They are moving to 7nm so there should be a huge jump in performance!

My 4770K is still going strong. Recently put some new thermal paste on it as for 5 years I was using the thermal paste that came pre applied with my Kraken X60. Summer was rough on my 4.7ghz OC and got a few blue screens when gaming. But a nice clean out of the fans and radiator together with repasting sorted that out :)
