Short lifespan sockets have one problem- replacement motherboards become harder to find as time progresses. The reason why I am still on socket 1155,is because SB/IB had a very long lifespan as it was even being used in new build commerical machines even last year and CPUs were still being even made last year.
If not I would have been forced to spend 4 times the money I original spent when my motherboard went kaput out of warranty,as it would mean a new motherboard and a new CPU.
So for me,the long socket lifespan is a plus, primarily since if I do buy a CPU I do keep it for long.
OTH,it does not mean its the most important metric either, but its nice to have it anyway.
