Yeah I don't do 5 hour renders. :p I do coding and gaming which so far its been solid. however I am still playing with stability and settings.
 
After installing the newest Windows 10 version 1803 which continued for several hours, I would just say that a faster processor and faster M.2 PCI-E SSD will save a lot, a lot of that time...

I hammer stability tests because I tend to work on images (photoshop or manga studio) for 8-10 hours, and I dread the day something bluescreens half way through saving a 200mb file and corrupts the whole thing... Can't even start it off again with no losses, what's been un-drawn cannot be re-drawn :(

(I should probably go proper HEDT but they seem a bit pish these days... It was nice when the latest 6-core Intel had no disadvantages over the cheaper quads!)

Ye its anoying when i set up rendering from my gopro that will take 7 hours after coming back from rave. Wake up and i see it crashed on 3rd set production :S

HEDT is coming down in price in relative terms, X299 boards can be had for sub £200, X399 can be had for less than £300, and even Intel C422 can be had for less than £300 as well. The CPUs don't start at mega bucks either compared to top end 1151 and AM4 chips...

You could probably go HEDT for about £200 over a mid to high range standard enthusiast build, maybe a little less if careful

Maybe this PBO is still a beta thing on x370 boards?

Good find!

From this it seems anyone with a 2700x needs to enable the following:

Core Performance Boost: Enabled (Same as auto but might as well be sure)
Performance Enhancer: Level 2.

No mention of PBO tho.

I'll try setting the two mentioned above and see if it makes a difference. I expect CPB is already on as Auto is the same as enabled according to article and I see all core speeds of 3.94GHz as it is.

Already in the giga K7 with their last bios (F23D), Looks like some of the asus boards have it too. So definitely no reason to bother if on a good 370 like you said. No clue if it works the same or as well s x470 chips.

@humbug , this is what I am holding out for so can hopefully go 24 core 3950X or whatever it will be called then. My second thought is of course when and how close will DDR5 be at that point. I believe that was 2019 to 2020 at this time so will have to wait for that as well to then pick up 64/128GB accordingly.

You'll upset Worzel doing that, you know how he like to boast he has the most cores in a group. :D
 
So after much faffing, I'm running a -0.08v offset on the CPU, can't change BCLK at all or lose boost, regardless of other settings, but getting decent per-core of 4.355GHz and all-core 4.15GHz on the stock cooler, at reasonable temps on Ryzen Balanced power profile.

Guess I can't grumble too much at that...
