That’s not a 570 board is it?

Nope, X370. But others are having success.

Do you use ryzen master as it has three limits that you can see if they are maxed or not when it's benching using cpu z or whatever.
I was hitting 100% on 2 of those 3,one was power to cpu socket the other peak amps or something.

Only to view load/sensors. All overclocking done via BIOS. Yeah, reaching peak power package at times.

Wait until Asus gets a good Bios.

Indeed!

Problem with bos updates for a 370 is how much effort manufacturers will put into them. 370 is two generations old now, and as 8 pack often points out, the newest products will always be the priority for manufacturers.

My 3900X is installed, in a Taichi X570. It's all at default settings, my CPU temp is 36c, 1.27v and 4.1GHz. RAM is not on XMP atm, when I set it on in BIOS just now my screens went blank for a minute so I hard reset and still had no screens then about 2 minutes later my screens came back I could see POST options then I had 2 automatic reboots and finally windows loaded. Checking CPU-Z my RAM is still at 2300. I have 16Gb 8Pack 3600MHz.

I have plans tomorrow evening so need a running PC so I won't play with anything like BIOS updates or trying XMP again untill Saturday.

If you had to hard reset before POST, then the machine just did not POST, the subsequent reboots is the machine trying again then finally loading default settings according to the now new RAM it has found. (depends how many fail attempts are set in BIOS).

Same RAM as me. In BIOS under overclock tweaker, Load XMP 2.0, Enter basic DRAM primary timings 16,16,16,36 or whatever is, SOC 1.1, VDDG 0.950 VDDP 0.900, Set Memory MT/s to 3600Mhz, infinity fabric to 1800Mhz.

Save into BIOS memeory slot, save changes and exit.

If it boot sinto windows - Stress test.

But if it wont POST then you may need to go from 2400/1200, 2800/1400, 3000/1500, 3200/1600, 3400/1700 and finally 3600/1800Mhz to train the RAM

A few minutes ago I tried again and turned XMP on and set IF to 1800 which is something I didn't do before, I left it on auto and I'm able to boot now. I also installed latest chipset drivers lastnight.

Mines arriving today

I've got some G.Skill Trident Z F43200C14D ram in my existing X99 system.

With 3900x, am I better off running it at

3200 14-14-14-34 (XMP)
or
3600 16-16-16-36 (manual)

Ah right yeah, IF always wants to be half the RAM MT/s. Mine wasn't stable under testing until I enetered the primary timings manually and it is what 8PACK recommends with SOC @1.1. Hopefully yours is fine with XMP loaded. Mine passed loads of testing but PUBG from my games was the one that made the PC reboot and found instability. I could hear the Audio crackle 30 secs before it went. Good luck.

All installed. Lots of faffing as usual. Haven't borthered re-installing Windows 10 yet but I will at some point.

XMP wouldn't work , so I had to manually set the DRAM timings/multiplier/voltage.

Did some quick benchmarks with games, pretty much as expected really. No change at 4k/60hz, and about 20fps faster at 1080p/120hz (Ultra)

Hitman 2 1080p/120hz at Highest settings with HDR

CPU render is 137 vs 105, about a 30% increase in performance, the overall score probably has some GPU bottlenecking.

PS: Zen is XMP 2, how old is that RAM?

Not even a year old.

XMP 2.0 worked fine on my 5 year old Asus x99s

OK :)

At stock what sort of all-core frequencies are people getting, mines around 4.2Ghz whilst gaming?

It does not look like its under performing to me, Broadwell-E is not a slow chip.

Clock for clock even coffeelake is no where near 30% quicker, its probably boosting to at least 4.2Ghz.
