RYZEN 5000 SERIES NOW ONLINE - 5950X, 5900X, 5800X & 5600X COMING NOV 5TH AT 5PM **NO COMPETITORS**

Looking for some advice from those wiser than I. I am finally upgrading from my old 3750k system and going Ryzen 5 and 3080 (eventually) as I promised myself a no compromises build.

I was considering the 5900X because you know, “no compromises”, but I am now thinking that the 5800X is more than adequate and because of the 8 cores per controller thing folk like Brian from TYC talk about might even be better. Especially as I’ll be shoving all this in an NZXT H1.

Anyone have any strong or otherwise opinions? Thanks in advance.

I am in exactly the same boat as you. I only game. Thing is, looking at what we know, ok the 5900x seems marginally for gaming seen as it has a slightly higher core boost.

Thing is, how much utilisation will the extra cores provide, particualry for gaming? Ok, they might, a bit. Plus if the load gets sprread over more cores there is also the advantage you CPU isnt working as hard and less heat but........

Those advantages are marginal, very marginal, what we dont know about yet, the potential drawbacks on the added latency, its an unknown risk.

Safer bet, probably the 5800x. I am hoping we get some reviewed on launch day BEFORE they go on sale, so we can make a more informed decision. BAsed on what we know currently, if I had to make a decision I'd probably go 5800x.

Any reason for that Benjii Im speccing up a system with the help of the forum at the moment :)

Samsung B-die is fantastic for overclocking. You can either increase your speeds or tighten your timings, maybe a bit of both if you don't push either too hard. Overclocking RAM tends to net more performance gains with the latest AMD CPUs than overclocking the CPU frequency.

Look into the Ryzen DRAM calculator for more info.

Really? I will look into that. I haven't needed to research much about this as I've never had a Ryzen CPU before.

BL2K8G36C16U4R - 16-18-18-38 - £68

Team Group Edition 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-28800C16 3600MHz - 16-16-16-36 - £120

Team Group RIPPED Edition 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-28800C14 3600MHz - 14-15-15-35 - £129

That's a 90% increase in price between the £68 Crucial set and the Ripped set. Is it truly worth it for just gaming?

32GB of the Crucial is £140, so £20 more nets me 16GB more memory, realistically, am I going to feel that difference in gaming between the fast sets?

Interesting!

So that 3200Mhz would basically be enough for a 5600x & gaming then.

I thought 3600Mhz was the sweet spot, but can you overclock this set to 3600mhz?

£30 difference between that set and the 3600mhz C16 Crucial set. Hmm!

I did some benchmarks prior to changing the memory so I can re run them with the new kit and post comparisons later.

You can't overclock to 3600 on that set according to Ryzen DRAM Calculator.

I see thanks for the information.

I'm still researching but there are so many options for memory with Ryzen. Also Zen 3 could also make use of 4000mhz so that's another thing to think about.

Perhaps it's wise to wait for reviews and see if memory speed changes with Zen 3. I have decided to go for a 16GB set for now as 32GB is probably overkill for just gaming.

So that means I can spend the money on a better quality memory set, so most likely the 8pack range. Just need to decide what set as if 4000mhz is an option now it may be worth looking at the higher speed sets.

Hey @Gibbo Thanks for creating this. I know this might not be the right place to ask, but this is the hype train thread!

Any news on when you are selling the Asus Dark Hero Crosshair VIII refresh of the original X570 Hero?

AMD Ryzen 5000: DDR4-4000 memory is the sweet-spot

https://videocardz.com/newz/leaked-slide-explains-amd-ryzen-5000-series-memory-overclocking

The Zen3 architecture will feature 1:1:1 ratio for each clock speeds. It is up to the user to configure the frequencies for best memory and system performance. The alleged slide also explains that DDR4-4000 memory is to Zen3 (Ryzen 5000) processor what DDR4-3800 was to Zen2 (Ryzen 3000 series).

Is it best to wait for reviews before committing to memory?
