I was looking at the budget set of DDR4-3600 at £65 for 16 GB and the in-stock DDR4-4000 - I'm not sure the budget (£100) pre-order set was there when I posted. Still, you're looking at an 11% boost in speed for +50% cost. And you thought RTX 3080 to 3090 was bad!

Looking at 32 GB kits, 2x 16 GB DDR4-3600 MHz will cost you £150; DDR4-4000 16 GB modules are not currently available from OCUK, but a 2x 16 GB DDR-4000 kit is available elsewhere for over £300, more than double.

Yeah I see what you mean. BL2K8G36C16U4R has timings of 16-18-18-38 for £68 which is great value for money and enough for the majority of people.

8pack is top tier memory and has the price to match. 50% increase in price for 11% increase in performance is not the greatest but actually in terms of FPS for games, that's not a bad ROI for £60 extra cost. 11% difference is almost the difference between the next tier up in graphics card.

If you could pay £60 to get 11% extra performance from a GPU would you go for it? I personally would. So you could look at it like that perhaps.

As always there are so many variables in this. But Ryzen does benefit massively from fast memory. And it looks like Zen 3 will benefit from even faster memory.

Hopefully there will be reviews showing any performance increase from memory up to 4000mhz then we can see what's the best ROI.

Agreed. As someone who already has 32 GB I'd be interested in seeing if 4x 8 GB DDR-4000 sticks work. Over the cost of a whole PC an extra £70 for 32 GB with 8 GB sticks isn't so bad; the extra £170+ elsewhere for 16 GB sticks is another matter.
 
I've literally today took delivery of 2 x 16GB of 3600Mhz (the nice Corsair RGB stuff BL2K16G36C16U4BL). I'm really not going to stress over this, I'll keep this set and see how the benchmarks fair when they are released. I really can't imagine it making much of a real world noticeable difference.

Yeah, I'm not sold on the reward for the premium.
 
My 6900K has lasted pretty well (technically my second one since the first died and I RMA'd it) but I think I am going to upgrade to a 5900X + the new Crosshair VIII Dark Hero + 32GB 3600 RAM
 
Hmm with all this and 4000mhz talk, is there any 4x8GB or 4x16GB C15 4000mhz chips out there at all? Overclockers themselves don't seem to have any and it appears gskills do a 2x8GB kit at least.

Gskill list F4-4000C15Q-32GTZR but can't find a set anywhere.
