Ryzen 5600x vs 3700x

Thanks! I spent (too long) reading up the details yday. Still slightly concerned they could pull it at any time, as you have to wait a month before submitting for the cash back. Hardly guaranteed. Then, there is the question of whether I wait for Zen 3, for peace of mind more than anything. I don't really want to spend £530 on the 5900X just for gaming, and the 5800X is looking to be a non-starter. So much to consider...
I have spent quite a bit of time agonising over this deal aswell. As you say the deal ends just before the amd reviews come out.
I think I will wait it out to see what AmD has to offer. Intel prices might drop once Zen 3 comes out anyway and I think there is a glut of z490 boards anyway.
I think the 5800x would be better long term over the 10700k but it's definelty buy once cry once scenario

People are saying consoles will only use 6 cores because of the OS, background tasks etc. I don't see how that will be worse than all the Microsoft malware (aka Win10) running on everyone's computers here though.

It will be better, the consoles are primarily designed for gaming, and that means the tuning of the OS, the assignment of hardware reources, is primed for gaming performance.

Think of two scenarios.

1 - You dedicate 2 cores for the OS (I thought was 1 core), 6 to gaming.
or
2 - You have 8 cores available for gaming, but the OS also has free pick of the 8 cores for all other tasks.

To me #1 is the clear winner.

Now as a PC gamer, you can mimic the setup to a degree, e.g. you can change cpu affinity for all processes, but obviously a lot of manual work, some tools exist to automate it, but I wouldnt be surprised if you got unexpected behaviour because Windows isnt designed to work like that.

So yeah core resource usage will be for sure less efficient on PC gaming, and the point is valid, but I still think once you go above 8 cores, its an increasing diminishing returns sort of thing. I think 4-8 cores is the new sweet spot for PC gaming. Of course with the usual exceptions such as streaming.

CPUs are the same price (£440-450), Mobos are within £20 of each other, and then it comes down to the cooler. Probably a fat air cooler for either option. So very little in it. Unless I am missing something?
Did you miss what I said? The Ryzen 9 3900 non-X is nearly £100 cheaper if you shop around. It's 95% of a Ryzen 9 3900x. Check the reviews.

My mate got one with a X470 motherboard for just over £400 in total. It's cheaper per core than a Ryzen 7 3700X or even a Ryzen 5 3600 now!

The non-X version is so hard to find, that all the search results are the 3900X. That's why, lol. I'll have a look, but I suspect the boards in the deals are questionable for the most part.

I think I will wait too... I would hate to rush and regret it in a month, just for the sake of £50.

what about 3900x @ £330 and any board you want

or you get 3900 and have to pick the board they stuff you with?

I know where you can get 3900 from. it only offer the best price on 3900 on selected boards. Some of the boards aren’t the cheapest in the market.

give and take...

I checked the pricing and for most of them the pricing is competitive(some are £10 more it appears),and in some of the bundles the Ryzen 9 3900 is just over £300. But even the higher priced option is barely £50 more than a Ryzen 7 3700X,and its been that price for a few months now. The issue is you are still looking at anywhere from £65~£85 more for the Ryzen 9 3900X. Also you can make your own bundles.
