Will you be purchasing the 7800X3D on the 6th?

Seen it as cheap as under £300. Was really tempted, but figured I'd rather just do a full upgrade.

May end up going that route anyway if I see it particularly cheap since this stock situation was a total bust and I'm not hopeful that the 7800 is going to be any better.

I’d have bought the 7950 @ 699 if I could. But waiting another months for it….then the 7800 is available but probably unavailable makes me think is this worth it.

AMD really messed up here with 7900x3d
Meh.... when AMD launched the 5800X3D people were crying there is no 16 core version, what if i need the cores and want to play games? People cried, and they are not wrong.

This time AMD covered all bases, now some reviewers are crying its stupid, should have just stuck with the 7800X3D, to me all that shows is how out of touch some tech journalists are with their audience.

Yeah basically the same.

To be fair the 7950X3D does make sense as the best for everything. It's only the 7900X3D which is in a bit of a weird no mans land of not being the best for gaming, or the best for productivity but still being quite expensive.

No, no, I get that. What I am saying, they messed up by not providing review samples to reviewers.
People are not gonna buy an unknown.

Oh i see, yeah i agree with that.

Just sent a cancellation request for my 7900x3d for an extra £80 I can get the 7950 or grab the 7800x3d in April if I can't grab the 7950

The lack of any kind of review worries me
Here's one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0r7BuxrzN0

Spot on.

Tech power up have all cores at over 5ghz up until you load 30 threads or so here: https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-ryzen-9-7950x3d/27.html

The 5.25ghz on the v cache CCD is the freq max set by AMD, not all chips will hit that. It's gonna depend on cooling, motherboard/vrm etc just like any other chips. But saying it is limited to 5ghz is just wrong, that's not what the freq max is set to.

I didn't say a limit of 5GHz, it is clearly able to go 5% higher.

Just like the 5.7GHz non-cached chiplet isn't limited to 5.7Ghz

This is why I say it's the same cached 5GHz chiplet that the 7800X3D will have.

The 7900X3D has a lot of cache to work with and that’s it’s big strength.

I must admit I’m not up to speed with Curve Optimiser etc. Im so used to Intel and only Intel I’m a little apprehensive. Hopefully some up to date guides will be posted soon.

Has anyone seen reviews citing 0.01% lows (not 0.1%, but 0.01%) for these chips? I can't find any, and I only play pubg, so that's a real deal-breaker if it's struggling to be consistent. I'm not expecting miracles, just don't want to be hitting 7fps in city drops, as I am with my 5930k. I've heard AMD struggle with this, but no idea if the overall speed negates the lows or not.

I like the (relatively) low power consumption and the small future-proofing (i.e. possibly future upgradability) but if I'm still getting stuttering as someone pushes me through smoke, spending £4k on a new system is really going to hurt.

I dont see the need for these 7000 series X3d chips when you can get the 5800X3D for about £280 with far lower platform costs.
Works great even with my 4090.

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's particularly bad or anything. It's just feels like it lacks an identity compared to the other two.

It’s all depends what you are buying the chip for. Say you have an application (I include games) that fits within the 140mb of the 7900X3D but not the 96mb of the 7800X3D then the 7900X3D will offer better performance.

unfortunately that doesn't apply since L3 cache of different CCD can't be accessed. So most a game thread will have fast access to is still 96MB. Theoretically the other CCD with 32MB would keep all the background apps, but that is a very small effect.

I predict there will not be a single game that is faster on 7900X3D than on 7800X3D
