Big surprise peoples

AMD has cut the price on the 7950x3d and 7900x3d by $100 one day after the 7800x3d reviews went live - Linus was right :cry:

£100 off the 7900X3D and I’ll really consider retiring the AM4 systems. That is a bargain.

Any particular reason or reasons? Genuinely curious as still deciding which board to get. I was considering the 670E-F
That board is technically better.

But I think the B650 E-E Gaming Wifi is the best value to features board. It certainly beats none E 670 boards.

The B650 E-E has;

4 Nvme slots (Two Gen 5, two Gen 4).
Two PCIe Gen 5 slots.
Error Display
Bios Flash back
Bios Reset Switch
6 Fan headers + Pump. 3 ARN headers.
Wifi and Blutooth.

What you miss (but save £200+) is;
More Overclocking stages (Unnecessary)
Duel Layer PCB
More USB/Sata Ports (But theres still plenty of the B650-E-E)

On the lower end boards gen5 speeds can be degraded. It's hard for manufacturers to test with no real gen5 products available when these boards were designed but this issue has already shown itself on gen5 Nvme storage drives where x670e boards had significant higher read/write speeds than b650. It's not a major issue so I don't think it matters for most people. It's hard to tell if this will affect Gen 5 GPUs as well but it's going to be several years before a GPU can saturated gen5 lanes anyway

Could it bot be on a case by case basis? What makes a b670 gen 5 Lane different to one of a b650 gen 5 Lane? :)

As for the GPUs I recently tried full bandwidth gen 3 on a 4090 and lost about 2fps. So I think that would be a consideration for a long time in the future as you say.

I watched the review, I don't recall him saying there would be a price cut on the 7950/7900-x3d's. :confused:

As funny as that would be it seems like its only showing that price because the site detected Best Buy for the 7950x3d and Microcentre for the 7900x3d had those prices and in the 7950's case it's not that price any more. The AMD shop price is still the MSRP. Seems to just show the lowest price of all the retailers or themselves rather than just their price.

I don't see the 7950x3d getting a price drop either way when most can't get them. All I've seen is just constant talk about delays and no shipments at all of the product from AMD to the UK. It's more like the product doesn't exist, lol.

And you type as though it can't be used for productivity. This was targeted for gaming and they done an exceptional job with it, less cores, less clockspeed, less power and giving intels best a good slapping. Its an impressive product.
But it doesn't beat the intel offerings in all games so not quite the white wash your making it out to be.
Many reviews show its performance to be good but not in every game tested and its victory over raptorlake is not that big. Only metric it deserves full credit for is power consumption.

It beats them in the vast majority of games bar a few outliers. So quite the boot in the stones for Intel no matter what way you try and spin it. And all at lower power, lower clocks and less cores, so more than "just power consumption" it deserves credit for.

Hopefully the 7800X3D V Cache will net me better 1% lows compared to my current 9900K. Looking forward to building this new system next week.
